Safety Coordinator in Woodridge, Illinois at Champion Packaging & Distribution Inc

Position Summary:

The Safety Coordinator supports human resources functions and maintains a safe, compliant warehouse environment. This role includes HR administration, employee relations, payroll/timekeeping support, and safety compliance. Bilingual in Spanish and English is required to communicate effectively with warehouse staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Human Resources Support

• Assist in recruitment and onboarding, including posting job openings, scheduling interviews, and preparing new hire documentation.
• Maintain accurate employee records, attendance, and training documentation.
• Support payroll and timecard tracking, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
• Assist with benefits administration and employee inquiries.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.

Safety Coordination

• Conduct regular warehouse safety inspections and identify hazards.
• Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain records of incidents, near misses, and workplace injuries; report to management and regulatory agencies.
• Coordinate safety training programs (forklift certification, PPE usage, emergency response drills).
• Investigate accidents and recommend corrective actions.

General Duties

• Support performance management and employee relations issues.
• Prepare HR reports, metrics, and compliance documentation.
• Serve as a point of contact for HR and safety concerns.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support HR and warehouse operations.

Qualifications:

• Bilingual in Spanish and English (required).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in HR, safety, or warehouse operations.
• Associate’s degree in HR, Business Administration, Occupational Safety, or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of HR practices, labor laws, and safety regulations (OSHA compliance preferred).
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office; experience with HRIS or payroll systems preferred.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to walk, stand, and move throughout the warehouse for inspections and training.
• Hours-7:30am-4:00pm M-F
