The Game Designer will support the design and implementation of interactive narrative experiences, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver polished gameplay features and cinematic sequences. This role requires creativity, strong communication, and the ability to work effectively across design, engineering, and art teams.
- Collaborate with design leadership to create engaging interactive stories and player experiences.
- Implement and manage cinematic sequences using proprietary scripting systems and game development tools.
- Help shape the narrative direction and presentation of in-game moments through thoughtful design choices.
- Partner with engineers, artists, and fellow designers to identify challenges and develop high-quality solutions.
- Contribute to the improvement of gameplay systems, storytelling elements, and player engagement.
- Apply feedback and iterate on designs to ensure experiences meet creative and technical standards.
- Work effectively within a collaborative development environment to support project goals and deadlines.
The ideal candidate combines professional game design experience with strong storytelling instincts and technical curiosity. This position requires experience developing shipped games, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with multiple disciplines.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional game design experience on a shipped AAA title.
- Strong understanding of cinematic framing, pacing, timing, and how scenes are presented to players.
- Demonstrated ability to create compelling narratives and understand how storytelling enhances player engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Ability to quickly learn and effectively use proprietary tools, scripting systems, and development pipelines.
- Technical problem-solving mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Experience with animation timelines and understanding of character behavior and conversational flow is preferred.
- Passion for role-playing games and knowledge of storytelling techniques, gameplay conventions, and player experience design is a plus.
- Experience with visual scripting or node-based scripting tools is preferred.
- Competitive hourly compensation based on location and experience:
- United States ranges approximately from $33–$53 USD per hour depending on location.
- Canada ranges approximately from CAD $29–$40 per hour in eligible locations.
