About the Chief People Officer Position:
The Chief People Officer provides enterprise-level leadership for all human resources strategy and operations at Avalon. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this role serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and is accountable for aligning Avalon’s people strategy with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and long-term growth plans. The Chief People Officer oversees the full employee lifecycle and ensures Avalon has the organizational structure, leadership capability, talent depth, and culture required to effectively execute company strategy. This role acts as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and the Board of Directors on organizational health, workforce risk, and succession planning.
This position is eligible for remote work, but frequent travel will be required to Avalon's corporate office located in Tampa, Florida.
Chief People Officer – Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Serve as the enterprise leader for people, culture, and organizational strategy across Avalon.Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors.Align human resources strategy with business objectives and long-term growth initiatives.Lead and support enterprise change initiatives, including organizational redesign, leadership transitions, and transformation efforts.Oversee strategies for talent acquisition, workforce planning, employee engagement, and retention.Build and sustain a high-performance, inclusive culture focused on accountability, innovation, and employee engagement.Lead executive and leadership development, performance management, and succession planning programs.Provide executive oversight of all HR functions, including employee relations, compensation, benefits, payroll, policies, and HR systems.Lead HR integration strategy for mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures as Avalon scales to enterprise scale.Architect and oversee a multi-regional HR operating model.Deploy enterprise-wide AI-driven HR platforms and govern responsible AI use in people decisions.Build and lead a Chief People Officer-caliber function including COEs for Talent, Total Rewards, DEI, and People Analytics.Serve as the executive sponsor for employer brand strategy.Establish workforce analytics capabilities that deliver board-level reporting.Partner with the CEO and Board on executive compensation governance.Drive organizational design for a workforce that may scale from hundreds to thousands of employees.Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations.Own enterprise workforce budgeting and partner with Finance on workforce planning and compensation strategy.Ensure HR programs are scalable, cost-effective, and aligned with business priorities.Provide executive oversight of facilities planning and executive administrative support.Chief People Officer – Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.15+ years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience, including executive-level leadership.Experience in a high-growth and/or private equity-backed environment.Background supporting a distributed or remote workforce.Experience leading enterprise-wide HR functions and advising executive leadership.Demonstrated experience scaling an HR function through a 3–5x workforce growth event.Prior involvement in M&A HR integration at a senior level.Experience preparing a company for a liquidity event.Track record of building or modernizing People Analytics capabilities.Experience with multi-state or multi-entity compliance at scale.Proven ability to design and execute scalable HR strategies.Expertise in leadership development, performance management, succession planning, and change management.Extensive knowledge of employment law and HR governance.Experience managing large-scale workforce budgets.Strong executive presence and communication skills.Experience leveraging HR systems and analytics.Demonstrated success building and leading high-performing HR teams.Chief People Officer – Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in using AI to streamline workflow within HR processesMaster’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.Senior-level HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR).Familiarity with HR systems such as ADP Workforce Now, Culture Amp, PowerDMS, SharePoint, Awardco, and PayFactors.Experience as CHRO or Chief People Officer at a company with 1,000+ employees in a tech-enabled healthcare or SaaS environment.Familiarity with executive compensation design, phantom equity, or long-term incentive plan governance.Network within the diagnostic imaging, healthcare payer, or health IT talent ecosystem.Prior experience building or governing an HR shared services or outsourced HR model.
