About This Position

Job Title: Transportation Manager

Department: Supply Chain

Reports to: Director, Supply Chain

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri

Supervises: Logistics Analyst and Logistics Specialist

FLSA Status: Exempt

General Overview: Plans and directs transportation of global and domestic inbound and outbound shipments, including shipments to and from customers/suppliers, distribution centers, and Rawlings locations.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages transportation research and strategic planning including policies and procedures regarding rates, carriers, automation, systems support, efficient routing, customer needs, etc.
  • Negotiates and completes all annual transportation contracts (Ocean, Parcel, LTL, and FTL)
  • Manages and mentors the Logistics Analyst and Logistics Specialist providing guidance, training, and support to maximize efficiency and development.
  • Manages the transportation process to achieve prescribed objectives. Ensuring compliance with transportation policies and procedures.
  • Applies sound communication and teamwork to influence coworkers appropriately
  • Develops best practices and procedures to drive economic transportation decisions
  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all transportation-related activities utilizing ERP and TMS
  • Audits shipments to ensure conformance to best-in-class practices
  • Directs the audit and payment process to ensure timely and accurate payment of freight bill
  • Supports sales/marketing efforts including customer communications as required
  • Provides transportation support and assistance to customers as needed
  • Develop and manage performance measures to deliver the balance of Speed to Shelf, Quality, and Value to the organization
  • Interprets and adheres to state and federal regulations and represents the organization with federal and state authorities, and other industry-related activities
  • Ensure that operations are conducted safely and within the law
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • BS in Business, Logistics, or related field applicable to position
  • Minimum 5 years directly related experience with the following: inbound and outbound ocean, air, drayage, parcel, LTL, and TL freight modes, working with forwarders, TMS, and freight audit/pay
  • Proven experience with negotiations, contract formulation, budget development, and relationship management
  • Experience with setting up a new transportation system (TMS), including developing and executing process and procedures. Experience with E2Open (Bluejay, Intelligent Audit) preferred
  • Working knowledge of carrier operations, shipment routing, and distribution methods
  • Understanding complexities of legislation and regulation: Dept. of Transportation (DOT), state, federal and Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC), IMO
  • Knowledge of costing, performance measurement, and transportation impacts on inventory control
  • Strong Computer skills to include advanced knowledge and application of Excel and pivot tables
  • Team player, problem solving capability, strong analysis skills

Working Conditions: Office environment and manufacturing/warehouse working environment.
