The Role

The Director of Tax leads the firm’s tax practice across our Murrieta, Escondido, and Chandler offices. Reporting directly to the Managing Partner, you’ll be the senior technical authority on tax and will oversee quality, workflow, and staffing while developing a team of tax professionals. This is a leadership seat with real influence on firm direction.

What You’ll Do

• Lead tax operations across the Murrieta, Escondido, and Chandler offices, ensuring consistent standards, processes, and client experience at every location.
• Serve as final technical reviewer on complex individual, partnership, S corporation, C corporation, trust, and estate returns.
• Drive proactive tax planning and advisory engagements for business owners and high-net-worth clients.
• Manage tax season capacity planning, workflow, deadlines, and extension strategy firm-wide.
• Mentor, coach, and evaluate tax staff, and build career paths and training programs that develop future leaders.
• Partner with firm leadership on pricing, client retention, technology adoption, and practice growth.
• Represent clients before the IRS, FTB, and ADOR on notices, examinations, and resolutions.
• Stay current on federal, California, and Arizona tax law changes and communicate their impact to the team and clients.
• Some travel between the Murrieta, Escondido, and Chandler offices, with more frequent visits during busy season.

What You Bring

• Active CPA license (required). An MS in Taxation is a plus.
• 10+ years of public accounting tax experience, including 3+ years in a manager or senior manager role leading teams.
• Deep expertise in pass-through entities and individual taxation; multi-state (CA/AZ) experience strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to lead people across locations and build accountability without micromanaging.
• Comfort with cloud-based tax and practice management platforms and enthusiasm for improving how work gets done.
• Strong client-facing communication skills and a planning-first mindset.
