About This Position

The Hummingbrid ORR team in El Paso, TX is hiring a Youth Care Worker Lead! Candidate should have supervisory experience in order to be considered.

In response to the humanitarian crisis at America’s ports of entry, (CPLC) Chicanos Por La Causa will be providing short-term shelter care services for unaccompanied children who have come to the United States without a parent or legal guardian. CPLC will provide extremely high-quality, trauma- informed residential and educational services for unaccompanied children, with intense supports for their social and emotional health. We will also ensure they receive excellent and immediate physical healthcare including pediatric, dental and nutritional supports for every child. 

CPLC’s ultimate goal is to ensure every unaccompanied child who receives our services is successfully and quickly discharged into the loving care of their family sponsor and, during the short time they are with us, have received best-in-class medical, therapeutic, recreational and educational services designed specifically to address the traumas they have sustained during, and often before, their migration journey.


POSITION SUMMARY
The Youth Care Worker Lead is responsible for the oversight and operational performance of all Youth Care Workers in the Operations Center of an on-site children’s residential facility. The Lead has a variety of responsibilities, including, but not limited to:

  • Develop effective communication procedures with YCW team to ensure all children are accounted for and supervised throughout assigned shift.

  • Oversee youth care staff and ensure completion of assigned duties and adherence to administrative and programmatic policies and procedures as directed by program leadership.

  • Report performance concerns and/or potential problems to program leadership. .

  • Ensure safety, security, and sanitation standards are maintained in all residential areas.

  • Must be available to fill in positions where needed when asked, this includes support in residential living, educational services, medical services, shower schedules, food schedules, and recreation.

  • May be required to accompany Clients in various situations, i.e. remain in medical area with client indefinitely, travel and stay with clients during program outings.

  • Maintains strong verbal communication skills with the effective use of tone and words.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Education Background

  • High School Diploma or equivalent degree and a minimum of 1 year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents.
    • Associates degree with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience, highly preferred.
  • Minimum age of 21 years or older.
  • English/ Spanish bilingual capabilities required.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid Driver’s License meeting company standards of insurability

Other Requirements

  • Proficiency with computers, common office equipment, and MS Office products.
  • Must be able to perform emergency behavioral intervention (EBI) for clients in care when necessary.
  • Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations.
  • Clean criminal background check.
  • Clean child abuse and neglect or child protective services check.
  • Ability to pass a medical examination to determine one’s fitness to satisfactorily and safely care of clients if accommodations are required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand, bend, or stoop for the entire duration of the shift, as necessary.
  • Must be able to supervise clients indoors and outdoors throughout the entire duration of their shift period, which lasts 8 hours or more on a typical shift.
  • Must be prepared and physically able to respond with appropriate protocol in a variety of dynamic supervision situations with clients.
  • In a sudden or emergency event, staff must at all times be physically able to run, jump, lunge, twist, push, pull, apply approved restraint techniques and otherwise manage or coerce the full weight of client.
