Description:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant with strong expertise in revenue recognition, healthcare receivables, and cash management to support a growing network of individual physician practices and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs).

This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, managing revenue-related accounting processes, optimizing cash flow forecasting, and supporting operational excellence across multiple healthcare entities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of healthcare revenue cycles, insurance reimbursement processes, and ASC 606 revenue recognition principles.

The Senior Accountant will work closely with Operations, Billing, Revenue Cycle Management, and Executive Leadership teams to support financial integrity and business performance.

Key Responsibility Areas

1. Cash Management & Forecasting

  • Manage daily cash activity and monitor liquidity across physician practices and ambulatory surgery centers.
  • Prepare and maintain short-term and long-term cash flow forecasts for multiple entities and operating locations.
  • Analyze cash collections, reimbursement timing, payer trends, and operational cash needs.
  • Monitor bank accounts, initiate transfers, and support treasury management activities.
  • Partner with leadership and operational teams to improve cash forecasting accuracy and working capital performance.
  • Assist with month-end close activities related to cash, treasury, and intercompany transactions.

2. Accounts Receivable & Healthcare Revenue Cycle Support

  • Oversee accounts receivable activities related to patient billing, insurance reimbursements, and physician services.
  • Monitor aging reports and collaborate with billing and revenue cycle teams to resolve outstanding balances and denial issues.
  • Review payer reimbursement trends and identify collection risks or process improvement opportunities.
  • Support reconciliation of patient payments, insurance remittances, and cash application processes.
  • Collaborate with practice administrators and ASC leadership to ensure timely and accurate billing practices.
  • Assist with bad debt reserve analysis and collection performance reporting.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over receivables, billing adjustments, and cash receipts.

3. Revenue Recognition & Financial Reporting

  • Lead revenue recognition accounting in accordance with ASC 606 and healthcare industry accounting standards.
  • Review contracts, payer agreements, management service arrangements, and physician compensation structures to determine appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Prepare and maintain revenue reconciliations, deferred revenue schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Analyze contractual allowances, adjustments, and reimbursement accruals to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes across multiple healthcare entities.
  • Assist with external audits, compliance reporting, and regulatory financial documentation.

Identify opportunities to improve automation, reporting accuracy, and accounting workflows related to healthcare revenue operations.

Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or commensurate experience required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within healthcare, physician practice management, or ambulatory surgery center environments.
  • Strong understanding of ASC 606, GAAP, and healthcare revenue cycle accounting.
  • Experience with healthcare billing, insurance reimbursement processes, and revenue recognition.
  • Strong cash forecasting and accounts receivable management experience.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems and healthcare practice management platforms. eClinicalWorks and/or NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple entities and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting multi-site physician practice or ASC organizations.
  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer reimbursement models, and contractual allowance accounting.
  • Experience with healthcare management companies or private equity-backed healthcare organizations.
  • Exposure to internal controls, audit support, and process improvement initiatives.
