Job Description
Basic Functions and Scope of Responsibility
The Facility Operations Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all YMCA members, staff, and guests. This position supports the daily custodial and basic maintenance needs of the facility and grounds, ensuring that all areas meet health, safety, and appearance standards. The Facility Operations Assistant plays a key role in creating a positive experience that reflects the YMCA’s commitment to excellence and community care.
Role Responsibilities
Clean and sanitize restrooms, locker rooms, floors, windows, walls, lobby, offices, and other assigned areas
Restock supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper; notify supervisor when inventory is low
Collect and dispose of trash in appropriate receptacles and dumpsters
Use appropriate cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with safety protocols and training
Identify and report maintenance issues or repairs needed to the supervisor promptly
Ensure building security by locking doors and monitoring safety hazards after hours, if applicable
Support risk management efforts by keeping pathways clear and promptly addressing spills or debris
Attend required trainings and staff meetings
Perform additional duties as assigned to support the YMCA’s mission and operations
Education, Experience & Training
Minimum age: 18
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
At least 6 months of custodial or facilities maintenance experience preferred
CPR, AED and First Aid certification obtained within 30 days of employment
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good communication skills and the ability to interact with members and staff in a professional manner
Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.
Must have high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop/bend.
Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
