The Shipping Support position plays a key role in ensuring our delivery and shipping operations run smoothly and efficiently. This position serves as a central point of coordination between customers, drivers, warehouse associates, sales teams, and branch personnel, to help ensure products are delivered accurately and on time. Responsibilities include assisting with truck routes and scheduling, resolving shipping issues, coordinating emergency deliveries, managing backorders, tracking trailers, and supporting warehouse operations as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Meet or exceed customer expectations by providing positive customer experience.
  • Assist with overseeing daily truck runs and delivery schedules.
  • Handle calls regarding shipping and delivery issues from customers, sales personnel, customer service, and branch personnel.
  • Route local trucks and drivers.
  • Organize and prioritize delivery runs.
  • Coordinate FIRE deliveries and transport materials to M&E Fire operations.
  • Ensure add-on orders are properly assigned and loaded onto trucks.
  • Assist with emergency and priority deliveries.
  • Monitor and work back-order reports.
  • Track and assign job trailers.
  • Pull and verify customer orders for accuracy.
  • Load trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Coordinate vehicle and trailer repairs with the maintenance department.
  • Maintain an organized and effective staging area.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Provide backup support to warehouse and counter operations as needed.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Working knowledge of company products, processes, and distribution operations.
  • Understanding of DOT and FMCSA requirements, as well as state and local transportation regulations.
  • Ability to read maps and utilize GPS technology effectively.
  • Knowledge of local roads and customer locations within the service area.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Sound judgment and effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and computer systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or
    Six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or
    An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in plumbing, waterworks, distribution, logistics, or dispatching is preferred.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Ability to pass operator exam and safely operate powered industrial equipment.
  • Valid Chauffeur's License (or willingness to obtain one) and an acceptable driving record.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Frequently required to walk, stand, talk, hear, grasp, handle, reach, and use fingers.
  • Regularly required to sit, climb, bend, stoop, push, pull, carry, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must perform essential job functions safely and with consistent alertness.
  • Vision requirements include near and far vision.
  • Work is performed primarily indoors with occasional outdoor exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Noise levels are generally moderate.
