The Sherwood YMCA is looking for a Personal Trainer that is positive and dedicated. The Personal Trainer has a passion for fitness, an innate drive for connecting with people, the ability to provide support and accountability to clients, all while engaging in a positive, encouraging way. He or she is responsible for planning and designing programs to assist in meeting the goals of the members, as well as the objectives of the Sherwood YMCA. The Personal Trainer will be supervised under the Healthy Living Coordinator and follow YMCA guidelines.

Essential Functions

• Create, deliver, and implement comprehensive training programs for individuals and small groups.
• Evaluate client’s physical conditions through an assessment to design an effective individualized program
• Conduct fitness orientations for youth and adult members.
• Have an organized lesson plan for each client or small group.
• Effectively communicate with team members, clients, and prospects providing high level customer service.
• Commit to establishing long-term and main harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, participants, members and families.
• Assist in facility organization and presentation.
• Provide a schedule of times you are available.
• Communicate and manage sick / vacation days with clients and staff for coverage of small groups as needed.
• Recommend and promote other Y programs as appropriate.
• Stay current using continued education to maintain and grow proper/required certifications for personal training and small groups.
• Offer basic nutrition advice to clients as requested.
• Attend all required staff meetings.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Additional Functions:

• Incorporate and model our YMCA Christian principles into your work.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents, and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
• Observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate techniques.
• Ability to properly spot members while lifting free weights.

• A nationally recognized personal trainer certification that is up to date.
• CPR/AED/First Aid Certified (YMCA holds first aid classes free for staff multiple times a year)
• Ability to pass a YMCA background check
• Strong time management and communication skills.
• At least one year of personal training experience is preferred
• Weekend and Evening Availability is a MUST!
• Additional certifications are a big plus!
