Function/Duties of PositionThe purpose of the fitness instructor (relief) position is to support the development and delivery of fitness programs and to provide instruction and leadership to group exercise classes. Provide a safe, enriching environment, and build relationships with members. Instruct members on proper exercise techniques.
- Teach a variety of group exercise classes. Greet members by name. Evaluate, correct, and instruct members on proper exercise techniques. Proactively provide appropriate direction to members performing dangerous or harmful exercises. Maintain a safe and clean environment for members.
- Demonstrate knowledge, ability and implementation of all polices and procedure related to the Fitness operations. Maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Assist in planning, coordination, presentation and promotion of programs, classes, and events. Design and lead special programs as necessary.
- Respond to all emergencies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Hold and maintain a NCCA accredited certification in the format taught, such as American Council on Exercise (ACE), Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA), or American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) fitness certification.
- Some positions may require additional certification.
Experience providing strength training, cardiovascular, and flexibility training principles and techniques.
Prior aerobic instruction, strength and/or dance experience.
- Skill in instructing and leading large groups.
BLS HeartCode or CPR/AED certification.

Preferred Qualifications
BS in exercise science or related field.
- Two years of experience in the fitness industry.
Certification in specific formats.
- BLS HeartCode and First Aid certification.
Additional Details
This position requires a high level of physical activity, including standing for extended periods of time, demonstrating equipment use, and spotting. Ability to lift a minimum of 80 pounds essential.
