About This Position
The Building Tech I performs general custodial services. This is an entry level classification in the Building Tech series. They will provide the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative.
This role requires individuals to work independently, taking on tasks and responsibilities without direct supervision or the need for constant collaboration with others.
This position is typically scheduled Tuesday to Saturday, 2pm - 10:45pm. This position works 100% onsite at the Athletic Center.
The starting salary range for Building Tech I is $60,287.76 - $66,360.84.
The full salary range for Building Tech I is $60,287.76 - $73,206.64.

- Cleans assigned facilities using basic custodial techniques such as dusting, mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, window washing and carpet cleaning; sanitizes facilities and furniture as necessary.
- Arranges classroom and meeting room furniture.
- Delivers and sets up equipment, supplies, tables and chairs.
- Maintains, cleans and refinishes a variety of floor surfaces, including carpet, wood, linoleum and tile.
- Sweeps and/or power washes sidewalks and parking areas.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms; restocks supplies.
- Empties trash barrels and picks up litter.
- Independently performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance work including painting, changing light bulbs, unclogging sinks, drains and toilets and replacing flush valves, door knobs, door stops, chair glides and table legs.
- Visually inspects facilities for damage, safety hazards and security concerns and reports concerns to lead or supervisory staff.
- May perform Building Tech II duties in their absence; and may serve as temporary lead custodian of assigned facility.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:
- Proper cleaning methods and the safe usage of cleaning tools, materials and disinfectants.
- Use and minor maintenance of tools and equipment used in custodial support work.
- Methods and equipment used in maintaining and refinishing floor surfaces.
- Methods, equipment and materials used in routine and preventative facilities maintenance and repair including carpentry, painting and plumbing.
- Occupational hazards and safety equipment and practices related to the work including preventative techniques.
- Applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations and district policies and procedures relevant to the facilities to which assigned.
- Record keeping methods.
- Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public and District staff.
Ability to:
- Safely and effectively use and operate a variety of custodial equipment.
- Clean and care for assigned facilities and equipment.
- Maintain and refinish flooring surfaces.
- Perform preventative maintenance and routine repair of assigned facilities.
- Maintain basic records.
- Identify occupational hazards and use safety precautions.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Learn, interpret, apply and explain policies and procedures related to assigned duties.
- Understand the organization and operation of the district as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities.
- Organize own work, set priorities and meet critical time deadlines.
- Use tact, initiative, prudence and independent judgment within general policy, procedural and legal guidelines.
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that would likely provide the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Completion of the twelfth (12th) grade or equivalent work-life experience.
One (1) year of experience in commercial custodial services.
- Valid Oregon driver license and good driving record, dependent upon location assigned.
