About the role

The Director of Business Intelligence leads the strategy, delivery, and day-to-day operations of the Business Intelligence team, with a strong emphasis on disciplined project management across a portfolio of concurrent BI initiatives. This role partners closely with Operations, Sales, and Leadership to identify, scope, sequence, and deliver BI solutions — including Power BI dashboards and reporting products — that increase efficiency and automate workflows. Success in this role requires both an advanced understanding of the cable and digital advertising business and the project management discipline to keep multiple workstreams, stakeholders, and deadlines on track.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own the BI project portfolio: define scope, milestones, resourcing, and delivery timelines across concurrent initiatives, and maintain a roadmap that is visible to leadership.
  • Create and maintain Viamedia's BI strategy and roadmap, translating business goals into a prioritized, well-managed project pipeline.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Viamedia's business goals, drivers, and processes to scope and sequence the most impactful BI projects.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams, applying structured project management practices (scoping, status reporting, risk tracking, change management) in close collaboration with department leaders.
  • Manage project budgets, resource allocation, expenses, and deadlines across the BI portfolio.
  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports; establish standards for data modeling and report design across the team.
  • Create and deliver daily/weekly operational reports, with Power BI as the primary reporting and visualization platform.
  • Supervise and manage a team of developers and analysts; set project assignments, develop career plans, monitor progress, and assess performance.
  • Provide departmental leadership — run project status meetings, give feedback, communicate priorities, and model mindful, organized leadership.
  • Collaborate with other departments to scope new project requests and deliver customer-driven solutions on schedule.
  • Help innovate existing and new platforms — including Power BI-based reporting — to drive productivity and revenue.
  • Perform other functions and project work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize competing projects, timelines, and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI (or comparable BI/visualization tools) for dashboard design, data modeling, and reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate well with others across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including project status reporting to leadership.
  • Experience with SQL Server or other relational databases.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Experience designing and building a scalable BI infrastructure.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS/MS in Business, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in Data and Business Intelligence roles.
  • 3+ years in Cable/Digital Advertising or a related industry.
  • Strong project management skills — planning, priority setting, budgeting, and risk management — to lead multiple concurrent projects and resources; PMP or similar project management certification a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Power BI, including DAX, data modeling, and dashboard development; Power BI certification a plus.
  • Experience building and managing teams.
