Job Description

Entry-Level Low-Voltage Installer

Position Summary

The Entry-Level Low-Voltage Installer is responsible for assisting with the installation of commercial fire alarm, security, access control, CCTV, structured cabling, audio-visual, DAS/ERRCS, and other low-voltage systems. Under the direction of a Foreman or Lead Technician, this position performs entry-level installation tasks while learning industry standards, construction practices, safety procedures, and company installation methods.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Installation Support

  • Assist in the installation of commercial low-voltage systems, including:
    • Fire alarm systems
    • Access control systems
    • CCTV systems
    • Security systems
    • Structured cabling
    • Audio-visual systems
    • DAS/ERRCS systems
    • Other communication and life safety systems
  • Pull, route, label, and secure low-voltage cable in accordance with approved drawings and company standards.
  • Assist with rough-in work for commercial and multifamily construction projects.
  • Install cable supports, J-hooks, sleeves, and other pathway components.
  • Assist with conduit installation and deck work as directed.
  • Install connectors, back boxes, mounting hardware, and support equipment.
  • Assist with terminating low-voltage cables under supervision.
  • Assist with testing and verifying installed cabling and system components.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly labeled installations.

Material & Tool Management

  • Load, unload, and organize tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Maintain assigned tools and equipment in safe working condition.
  • Assist with material staging and job site organization.
  • Notify supervisors of material shortages or damaged equipment.

Construction Support

  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, floor plans, installation drawings, and specifications.
  • Assist Foremen and Lead Technicians with daily installation activities.
  • Coordinate work with other trades as directed.
  • Learn proper installation methods and construction best practices.
  • Perform additional installation tasks as experience and training increase.

Safety

  • Follow all Coastal Fire & Integration Systems safety policies and procedures.
  • Comply with OSHA regulations, General Contractor safety requirements, and customer site rules.
  • Properly wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and injuries immediately.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other job site equipment.

Professional Development

  • Participate in company-sponsored training programs.
  • Learn applicable fire alarm, low-voltage, and construction codes and standards.
  • Develop proficiency in installation techniques, system components, and industry best practices.
  • Work toward increased technical knowledge and career advancement opportunities.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn from experienced technicians and supervisors.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Trade school or vocational training in electrical, electronics, or construction is a plus.

Experience

  • Previous construction or electrical experience is preferred but not required.
  • Entry-level candidates with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of electricity and electronics.
  • Basic understanding of NFPA 72 is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid California Driver's License with an acceptable driving record preferred.
  • Ability to pass required background screening and drug testing.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred or ability to obtain within the company-designated timeframe.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull more than 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work above ceilings, in electrical rooms, mechanical spaces, rooftops, parking structures, and active construction environments.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions.
  • Visual acuity and hearing sufficient to safely perform installation work.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment while working on construction sites.
