Job Description

Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) – Cardiology

Saratoga Hospital

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) serves as an integral member of the Cardiology care team, providing high-quality, patient-centered care across inpatient and outpatient settings. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, clinical staff, and interdisciplinary teams, the APP helps deliver comprehensive cardiovascular care while supporting access, continuity, and excellence in patient outcomes.

This role offers a high degree of clinical responsibility and professional autonomy within a supportive, team-based environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Obtain, document, and update comprehensive medical histories and perform physical examinations.
  • Assess, diagnose, and develop evidence-based treatment plans for patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions.
  • Order, interpret, and manage diagnostic testing, medications, and therapeutic interventions within scope of practice.
  • Monitor patient progress, reassess clinical status, and modify plans of care as appropriate.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, lifestyle modifications, and preventive care.
  • Coordinate care with physicians, nursing staff, specialists, and community resources to support optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participate in inpatient rounding, outpatient clinic visits, and transitional care management as assigned.
  • Supervise cardiac stress testing and Cardiac PET testing in collaboration with the cardiology team and imaging staff.
  • Facilitate admissions, transfers, consultations, and discharges in collaboration with the care team.
  • Maintain timely and accurate medical documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, quality initiatives, performance improvement activities, and ongoing clinical education.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to staff when appropriate.
  • Maintain all required licensure, certifications, credentialing, and continuing education requirements.

Position Details

This is a full-time position providing direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient cardiology settings. Work schedules are developed collaboratively with department and practice leadership based on operational and patient care needs.

Work locations may include:

  • Saratoga Hospital
  • Saratoga Hospital Diagnostic Center
  • Wilton Medical Arts Medical Imaging
  • Outpatient Cardiology offices located in Saratoga Springs and Malta, New York

The APP team currently participates in a rotating weekend coverage schedule. Weekend responsibilities may include hospital rounding and management of urgent patient phone calls through the Cardiology answering service during designated coverage hours. Weekend rotation frequency is based on departmental staffing levels and is subject to change.

Additional compensation is provided for assigned weekend coverage shifts in accordance with departmental policy.

Participation in shared phone call coverage is also required during scheduled workdays based on operational needs. APPs scheduled for call coverage are expected to remain accessible by phone during assigned coverage periods.

Qualifications

  • Current New York State license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Current DEA registration (or ability to obtain)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Prior cardiology, hospital-based, or acute care experience preferred, but not required
