About This Position

The HVAC Manager is a highly experienced maintenance professional responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of all HVAC systems owned by Fresno Pacific University including hydronic cooling & heating, air handling units, boilers, Johnson controls Metasys system, and any other system utilized for the University buildings. This qualified applicant must be confident to work with all sizes/aspects of HVAC equipment in both commercial and residential settings and should be capable of locating and diagnosing maintenance problems on equipment to quickly perform emergency repairs. Traveling may be required between FPU campuses to inspect equipment, identify issues, and perform routine maintenance or repairs. This position will work both independently and with contractors under the supervision of the Maintenance Director.
  • Maintain and manage the operations of HVAC automated and manual systems and equipment for all FPU buildings.
  • Schedule routine maintenance, repairs and service of HVAC and automated systems for the university buildings and infrastructure equipment.
  • Oversee and maintain the operations of the central plant, including chillers and boilers.
  • Oversee the operations of the dining hall; maintain and repair all related equipment.
  • Create plans to improve processes and streamline best practices.
  • Work with the Facilities Manager to maintain HVAC equipment.
  • Update and maintain records for all equipment inspections, filter changes, and equipment placement.
  • May lead apprentice technicians or student employees.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical faults
  • Ensure compliance with safety and appliance standards
  • Install electrical components and wiring
  • Inspect and test HVAC systems and components
  • Recommend maintenance to improve system performance
  • Keep records of work performed
  • Communicate with customers about issues, maintenance tips, and system upgrades
  • Use specially designed software and remote computer links to monitor systems
  • Perform welding and soldering as needed
  • Lubricate and oil equipment according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards
  • Recycle and charge refrigerants as required
  • Maintain a positive attitude and inspire high team morale

Qualifications:
  • Capable of reading blueprints and HVAC equipment specifications
  • Capable of assembling and installing HVAC/R units in residential
  • Thorough understanding of hydronic cooling & heating
  • Understanding of Johnson controls Metasys system
  • Minimum 4 years of HVAC service and repair including air handlers, dampers, etc.
  • Certification and/or license in HVAC
  • Refrigeration certifications
  • Certification in automated systems operations
  • Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills in person and by phone
  • Possess the ability to professional process feedback
  • Own a valid Driver’s License with an excellent driving record


Environmental Conditions:
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
  • Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.
  • Both indoor and outdoor work environments are subject to varying weather conditions
  • This position is based on the main campus of Fresno Pacific University but may be required to drive personal or University vehicles between campuses and University residential areas to appointments.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: walking, sit, or stand for extended periods of time.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform frequent bending, lifting, sitting, standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, reaching, grasping, squatting, or working at heights and/or in confined spaces.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.

$54,080 to $61,360 is the annual starting salary for this role and reflects what Fresno Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, FPU offers a competitive benefits package.
