About This Position

SUMMARY: The Quality Control (QC) Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and managing the quality control activities within the seafood processing facility. This role ensures that the products meet the S.P.E.’s quality standards, food safety regulations, and compliance with local and international standards. The QC Coordinator works closely with other departments to ensure seamless quality monitoring, reporting, and improvement initiatives, maintaining the highest quality and safety standards throughout the production process.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


> Quality Control Monitoring

  • Ensure that all seafood products meet internal and external quality and safety standards by conducting regular inspections at various stages of the production process.
  • Monitor and verify raw materials, ingredients, packaging materials, and finished products to ensure compliance with quality specifications.
  • Perform daily inspections of the facility to identify potential quality issues, contamination risks, or non-compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Coordinate the sampling and testing of products for microbiological, chemical, and physical attributes.


> Documentation & Record-Keeping

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and quality control activities.
  • Ensure that all documentation complies with company policies, government regulations, and industry standards (e.g., HACCP, FDA, DOH regulations).
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports for management and regulatory authorities, as required.


> Quality Assurance & Process Improvement

  • Assist in the development and implementation of Quality Assurance programs, policies, and procedures to improve product quality.
  • Monitor quality data to identify trends and areas for improvement, implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support the development of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for any identified non-conformance or quality issues.
  • Collaborate with the Production team to optimize processes and enhance product quality.


> Training & Team Coordination

  • Provide training to production staff and other departments on quality standards, food safety practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure that team members are trained and competent in handling equipment used for quality control purposes, including testing instruments, measurement tools, and inspection guidelines.
  • Coordinate with team members and other departments to resolve quality-related issues in a timely and effective manner.

> Regulatory Compliance & Auditing

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety regulations, quality certifications (e.g., SQF, BAP), and customer-specific requirements.
  • Manage / conduct internal audits, inspections, including preparing and reviewing documents and processes to ensure compliance.
  • Investigate and address any food safety or quality audit findings, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Manage assigned environmental, health, & safety functions, specific to OSHA.


> Customer Complaint Investigation

  • Assist in investigating and resolving customer complaints related to product quality or safety.

> Product Traceability & Recall Management

  • Assist in the management of any product recalls or withdrawals, if necessary.
  • Coordinate with production, supply chain, and regulatory authorities during recall procedures, ensuring adherence to protocols.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification in food safety (e.g., HACCP, SQF, or PCQI) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in quality control or food safety, food processing, or related industries.
  • Proven experience in implementing quality control systems, audits, and compliance with regulatory standards in a food processing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of processing standards, regulations, and quality control systems.
  • Excellent understanding of HACCP, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and other food safety protocols.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply food safety regulations, industry standards, and customer requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to train and guide team members.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The FSQA Specialist will work in a seafood processing facility where they may be exposed to varying temperatures and conditions (e.g., cold storage areas, seafood processing lines).
  • Occasional weekend or evening work may be required depending on production schedules and urgent quality concerns.
  • The role may require standing for extended periods, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
