Duration: 12-month contract; 10-month work (school year), with extra days

FLSA: Exempt

Schedule: Monday-Friday (plus scheduled events)

Hours: Full-time, 7:50 a.m. – 3:20 p.m.

Job Purpose: To robustly prepare and guide students through a multi-point college counseling program with the goal of achieving a college placement with a strong focus on fit and match. To coordinate and oversee the standardized testing of students and to assist the director of college counseling in departmental matters.

Faith, Community, and Dominican Charism

  • Ensure that the four pillars of a Dominican education (prayer, study, community, preaching) are developed and promoted among the school community.
  • Develop an active faith community and model Christian values.
  • Support prayer and spiritual formation within the student, faculty/staff, and parent communities.
  • Uphold and implement the Dominican charism and the Houston Dominican Sisters’ congregational goals.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion by honoring the dignity of each member of the St. Agnes Academic community.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic and college counseling to a caseload of approximately 120 students, including sophomores, juniors and seniors
  • Establish a timeline for the college search and application process and assist students with all aspects of the process, from prospective college identification to the logistics of application completion
  • Develop positive relationships with college admissions representatives from colleges and universities throughout the country to help foster a better understanding of the rigor of the St. Agnes curriculum and school culture
  • Work to establish collaborative working relationship with a team of five other counselors
  • Assist in the development and execution of group guidance efforts and evening parent programs
  • Each college counselor has a specific task/project/event s/he leads
  • Some travel to colleges/universities maybe required
  • Write recommendation letters for assigned student case load. Compensation for 5 letter writing days during the summer is included in wages
  • Additional days in June and July as necessary for closing out and/or preparing for the year as determined annually by the Director of College Counseling

Department Responsibilities - In conjunction with and support from the director

  • Work with communications department for the upkeep and maintenance of content and resources on the Counseling portions of mySAA and the main website
  • Assist in the development and execution of group guidance efforts and evening parent programs
  • Manage scholarship database, particularly for Junior Conferences
  • Complete individual projects as assigned

Testing Responsibilities - In conjunction with and support from the director

  • Coordinates logistics for all internal testing (PSAT and AP)
  • Orders PSAT and AP examinations
  • Responsible for analyzing and disseminating testing data
  • Coordinates weekend SAT testing
  • Manage relationships with test prep companies
  • Organize test prep opportunities and programming
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to embracing the mission of St. Agnes Academy
  • Bachelor's Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred in student affairs, education, counseling, or related field preferred
  • Prior experience as a College Counselor with a successful track record of student admissions to college preferred
  • Prior education and leadership experiences a plus
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple, and occasionally simultaneous, deadlines and projects
  • Excellent judgment, confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy
  • Highly organized and reliable with demonstrated success working in quick-paced, dynamic environment with many responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team member; ability to set priorities and schedules to meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills in relation to multiple audiences, including students, parents, and educators with grace, competence, and warmth
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Passion for a Catholic, all-girl’s educational environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Professional attitude and appearance
  • Completion of Human Sexuality training
  • Completion of Safe Haven training
