Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Docker Desktop, Go/Backend Focus based in Canada.
This is a high-impact backend and platform engineering role focused on the systems powering a widely used developer desktop experience.
You’ll design and build modular services and shared components that support millions of developers and multiple engineering teams.
The role combines hands-on Go development with architectural ownership, reliability engineering, telemetry, and platform evolution.
You’ll work on user-facing lifecycle systems such as installation, updates, startup, and other foundational capabilities.
As a senior engineer, you’ll take ownership of complex, cross-cutting initiatives from problem definition through delivery and iteration.
You’ll collaborate with distributed teams, influence technical direction, and help establish engineering practices that enable teams to move faster with confidence.
This is an opportunity to shape foundational developer infrastructure while working in a remote-first, highly collaborative engineering environment.
- Design, develop, and maintain core backend and platform systems supporting the desktop application's lifecycle, including installation, updates, startup, and shared services.
- Build and evolve modular platform components such as settings, feature flags, internal services, and other capabilities consumed by multiple engineering teams.
- Develop high-quality, well-tested Go software while contributing to engineering standards, maintainability, and technical excellence.
- Improve platform reliability, performance, observability, and diagnostics through telemetry, system-health metrics, and architectural improvements.
- Partner with feature teams to ensure shared platform capabilities effectively support product development and evolving technical requirements.
- Drive initiatives end to end, from defining problems and evaluating solutions through implementation, release, measurement, and iteration.
- Contribute to architectural discussions and help establish the long-term technical direction of the desktop platform.
- Identify and resolve complex, cross-cutting technical challenges while considering their impact on both internal teams and end users.
- Participate in an on-call rotation when required, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays to support critical platform systems.
- Share technical knowledge through design proposals, documentation, internal presentations, pair programming, and collaboration with engineering peers.
- 6+ years of professional experience building backend software, with strong and recent hands-on experience using Go (Golang) in production environments.
- Proven backend or platform engineering expertise, including experience designing modular systems and shared components used by multiple teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate ambiguous requirements, complex systems, and cross-functional technical challenges.
- Experience with observability, telemetry, diagnostics, or system-health monitoring and an understanding of how these capabilities support reliable production systems.
- Demonstrated ownership of technical projects from initial problem definition and architecture through implementation, delivery, and ongoing improvement.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to write clear technical documentation and collaborate effectively across distributed engineering teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with developer tooling or platform engineering is an advantage.
- Familiarity with virtualization, networking, containers, CI/CD systems, release pipelines, build systems, desktop environments, or local development tooling is a plus.
- Comfortable thinking in terms of reusable systems and understanding how architectural decisions affect other teams and end users.
- Willingness to contribute to a collaborative, remote-first engineering environment and influence technical direction through strong judgment and well-reasoned proposals.
- Canada compensation range of CA$225,300 – CA$361,750 , plus equity.
- Fully remote work for candidates located in the East Coast time zone of Canada or the United States.
- Flexible working arrangements designed to support autonomy and effective collaboration.
- Generous paid time off, quarterly wellness days, and a designated end-of-year wellness break.
- Home-office support to help create a comfortable and productive remote workspace.
- Technology stipend equivalent to US$100 net per month.
- Annual learning and development stipend for conferences, courses, certifications, and other professional development.
- 16 weeks of paid parental leave after six months of employment.
- Equity eligibility for full-time employees.
- Comprehensive benefits including medical coverage, retirement benefits, and paid holidays, varying by country.
- Opportunities to work with globally distributed engineering teams and contribute to widely used developer infrastructure.
- Dedicated onboarding, mentorship, technical collaboration, and opportunities to lead significant platform initiatives.
