Position Summary


The Assistant Property Manager is responsible for resident customer service, managing operations, leasing, renewals, collections, financial reporting, supplies, and communications. This role requires strong customer service skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, the Assistant Property Manager supports building maintenance and promotes the property's financial health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Resident/Property Relations: Respond to resident issues, enter maintenance requests in the system, grant access, attend community meetings as required, and respond to emergencies.

Office/Administrative Support: Support the site office by being present during property office hours, answering the telephone, filing, sorting mail, maintaining office equipment, ordering office supplies, referring residents, providing accurate rental information, and giving access to vendors/contractors.

Compliance: Support achieving overall compliance of all properties, including, but not limited to, internal and external audits, and collecting, processing, and properly filing the required information.

Marketing & Leasing: Obtain occupancy goals set by the budget/organization by processing applications and retaining residents.

Physical Asset: Support efforts to ensure that unit and common-area components pass all physical inspections. Inspect apartments during move-ins and move-outs, walking through apartments and the communities as needed.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills — Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, real estate, accounting, public administration, or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of previous leasing/property management experience with multiple sites.
  • Experience working with Affordable Housing programs, such as Tax Credits and HUD.
  • Proficient with property management, budgeting, and financial reporting basics.
  • Previous experience working with populations facing multiple barriers to finding and keeping housing.
  • Experience with low-income housing funding mechanisms, including operating subsidy programs.
  • Experience with supportive-service housing environments.
  • Proficient with Yardi Property Management software.
  • Computer literate and proficient in MS Word and Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and efficiently.
