Position Summary:

The Instructor in Communication Disorders is a non-tenure-track faculty position responsible for teaching and clinical education in the Department of Communication Disorders. The successful candidate will contribute to the academic and clinical preparation of undergraduate and graduate students in communication sciences and disorders and will support the mission of the Department, College, University, and the profession.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in communication disorders and related areas.
• Provide clinical education and supervision for students enrolled in clinical practicum experiences.
• Participate in the academic and clinical education of students in accordance with departmental, university, and professional standards.
• Contribute to the effective operation of the Speech and Hearing Center, including activities related to clinical education and service delivery.
• Participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service activities.
• Maintain professional knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development and engagement with current practices in speech-language pathology and higher education.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or appropriate university administrator.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of the academic and clinical education of students in communication sciences and disorders.

• Knowledge of the daily operations of a comprehensive Speech and Hearing Center serving the public and university community.

• Knowledge of current assessment and intervention practices in speech-language pathology.

• Knowledge of professional standards, credentialing requirements, and licensure requirements for speech-language pathologists at the national and state levels.

• Demonstrated ability to provide effective clinical supervision and mentorship to students.

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, clients, families, and community professionals.

• Ability to manage clinical responsibilities and support student development to promote effective therapeutic outcomes.

• Ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and contribute positively to a collegial academic environment.

General Days/Hours:

Monday-Friday
8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
The position may require additional hours, including occasional evening or weekend responsibilities, as needed to fulfill teaching, clinical supervision, service, and other university responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in communication sciences and disorders.

• Experience providing clinical education and supervision to students in speech-language pathology.

• Experience working in a university-based speech and hearing clinic or other comprehensive clinical setting.

• Demonstrated knowledge of current issues, evidence-based practices, and professional standards in speech-language pathology.

• Experience with student mentorship, academic advising, or other forms of student support.

Minimum Qualifications:

• An earned Master's Degree is required for this position.

• Earned doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Communication Disorders, Speech-Language Pathology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is preferred.

• At least three (3) years of professional experience beyond the Clinical Fellowship.

• Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

• Current license to practice speech-language pathology in the State of Arkansas or eligibility for Arkansas licensure.
