Software Engineer (Kubernetes Focused) in Columbia, Maryland at Phoenix Operations Group

Phoenix Operations Group seeks an experienced Software Engineer to develop Java applications and maintain Kubernetes deployments. Collaborate with engineers to deliver dependable enterprise software while mentoring teammates and providing technical leadership.

Responsibilities

• Build Java software, enterprise APIs, REST services, and microservices.
• Maintain Kubernetes deployments using Helm and Flux.
• Test, troubleshoot, and improve software.
• Guide engineering teams while contributing hands-on development.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and support additional program needs.

Required Qualifications

• Related bachelor’s plus nine years’ relevant experience; related master’s plus seven years; or high school diploma/equivalent plus thirteen years.
• Strong Java experience, including modern frameworks/libraries such as Spring or Guava.
• Kubernetes deployment, Linux, Agile, Git, Nexus, and Maven experience.
• Demonstrated engineering leadership or mentorship.
• Strong troubleshooting, testing, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

AWS/Azure; Kubernetes operators and custom resource definitions; Go/Python; scripting; GitLab CI automation; distributed/NoSQL databases; Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr; Big Data platforms; Jira, Confluence, or GitHub Enterprise.

Clearance and Schedule

U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain government clearance are required. Active clearance is preferred, not required initially. Onsite schedules require flexibility.
