Job Description

Senior Software Development Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer based in the United States.

As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will build the internal cloud platform that enables engineers to work with public cloud infrastructure through safe, reliable, self-service experiences.
You will design and own backend services and APIs that simplify complex capabilities such as account provisioning, networking, identity, and cloud policy.
The role combines software engineering, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, automation, security, and developer experience.
You will turn manual infrastructure processes into scalable products that reduce operational effort and improve engineering productivity.
Working closely with platform, security, database, middleware, and delivery teams, you will influence how public cloud capabilities are designed and consumed.
You will own the reliability and operational performance of the services you build, including observability, service-level objectives, and production support.
This is an opportunity for a senior engineer who wants to shape internal platforms as products and make a broad impact across a distributed engineering organization.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, develop, and own backend services and APIs that provide self-service capabilities for cloud account provisioning, networking, IAM, and policy management.
  • Transform recurring manual infrastructure tasks and runbook-driven processes into secure, scalable APIs, automation, and platform products.
  • Treat internal engineering teams as platform customers by understanding their use cases, designing intuitive interfaces and paved paths, and using feedback and adoption data to guide priorities.
  • Build reliable production services with strong observability, defined SLOs, resilient architectures, and self-healing capabilities.
  • Participate in production on-call responsibilities for services owned by the team and lead follow-up initiatives that address root causes and eliminate recurring operational issues.
  • Apply modern AI-assisted and agentic development tools to accelerate software design, implementation, testing, and operations while maintaining high standards for quality and security.
  • Contribute to platform architecture, technical strategy, roadmap planning, and engineering design discussions related to public cloud enablement.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, runtime, database, middleware, delivery, security, and other engineering teams to create cohesive platform capabilities.
  • Develop infrastructure-as-code and automation using reusable, tested, and maintainable patterns rather than repetitive configuration.
  • Continuously improve developer experience, platform adoption, reliability, and operational efficiency through measurable outcomes and iterative product development.
Requirements:
  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating backend, infrastructure, or platform services in production environments.
  • Strong distributed-systems and API design capabilities, with a practical approach to simplicity, resilience, scalability, observability, and maintainability.
  • Production experience with Golang or Python preferred, or another modern programming language, supported by strong testing, debugging, and code-review practices.
  • Deep hands-on experience with at least one public cloud provider, preferably AWS, including services and concepts such as VPCs, subnets, routing, load balancers, security groups, IAM, compute, and storage.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, including designing reusable modules, testing infrastructure changes, reviewing changes for safety, and managing configuration drift.
  • Working knowledge of cloud security principles, including IAM, network segmentation, encryption, and policy enforcement in multi-account environments.
  • Hands-on experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Argo for backend and/or infrastructure services.
  • Strong software-engineering mindset with a demonstrated ability to identify repetitive manual work and replace it with reliable automation and scalable systems.
  • Experience building or contributing to internal developer platforms, developer tooling, self-service provisioning, account vending, golden paths, or similar capabilities is highly desirable.
  • Experience treating internal platforms as products, including defining interfaces, measuring adoption, collecting user feedback, and improving developer experience.
  • Familiarity with service-to-service networking, service meshes, workload identity, rate limiting, Linux systems, and networking fundamentals is a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams, communicate architectural decisions clearly, and take ownership of systems throughout their lifecycle.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary, with location-specific ranges including:
    • $160,900–$257,100 annually in California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington State, and Washington, D.C.
    • $152,900–$244,300 annually in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia.
  • Eligibility for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance, and location.
  • Fully remote work model, with employees able to work from a location of their choice within the United States, subject to applicable geographic restrictions.
  • Flexible distributed-work culture built around trust, clear systems, and collaboration rather than a fixed corporate office.
  • Opportunity to work on high-impact internal infrastructure used by a broad engineering organization.
  • Exposure to modern cloud platforms, infrastructure automation, AI-assisted engineering, distributed systems, and developer tooling.
  • Strong opportunities to influence technical strategy, platform architecture, and engineering practices.
  • Inclusive and collaborative work environment focused on innovation, professional growth, and career development.
  • Equal employment opportunity and reasonable workplace accommodations for qualified individuals.
