Position Summary:
The Department of Philosophy at the University of New Mexico is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Native American and Indigenous Philosophy at the rank of Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date is August 10, 2026. Customary undergraduate and graduate teaching duties, including thesis supervision, and non-teaching duties in Philosophy.

We are seeking an outstanding scholar with a research specialization in Native American and Indigenous Philosophy (with "Indigenous" here covering any and all indigenous communities and cultures in the Americas), who is able to teach courses that contribute to the Department's existing undergraduate curriculum, who is able both to teach courses that contribute to the Department's graduate curriculum as well as to provide mentoring and supervision for graduate students, who will enjoy working in a philosophically pluralistic department, and who has a demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.

• Ph.D. in philosophy or related field by start date of appointment

• Native American and Indigenous Philosophy as an area of research specialization

Preferred Qualifications:

• Potential for producing a strong record of publications in Native American and Indigenous Philosophy

• Evidence of teaching excellence in courses taught in a university or college setting

• Ability to teach courses that contribute to the Department's existing undergraduate curriculum

• Ability to teach courses that contribute to the Department's graduate curriculum

• Ability to mentor and supervise the Department's graduate students

• Ability to work effectively with students and colleagues

• Ability to work effectively in a philosophically pluralistic department

• A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
