ASSISTANT ATTORNEY – CIVIL LITIGATION AND LABOR LAW ATTORNEY (FULL-TIME)

DEPARTMENT:County Counsel (Legal)

SALARY: $100,000- $125,000

SCHEDULE:Full-Time, Monday–Friday

LOCATION: MercerCounty, NJ

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a full-time Assistant Attorney, County Counsel to jointhe Mercer County legal team in Mercer County, NJ. The qualified AssistantCounty Counsel will be an experienced civil litigation attorney with expertisein Title 59, civil rights, and employment and labor law. The successfulcandidate will represent the County in legal proceedings, provide counsel todepartments, and play a key role in collective bargaining and public sectorcompliance.

This government attorney position offers the opportunity tomake a meaningful contribution to public service while supporting the legalframework of Mercer County operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ASSISTANT COUNTY COUNSEL:

  • The Assistant County Counsel will represent the County incivil litigation and labor-related cases.
  • The Assistant County Counsel will provide legal counsel toCounty departments on employment law and workplace compliance.
  • The Assistant County Counsel will participate in collectivebargaining negotiations and labor discussions.
  • The Assistant County Counsel will advise on mattersinvolving the New Jersey Civil Service Commission and state employmentstatutes.
  • The Assistant County Counsel will draft legal documents,formal legal opinions, and official correspondence.
  • The Assistant CountyCounsel will collaborate with internal departments to ensure compliance withlocal, state, and federal laws.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE ASSISTANT COUNTY COUNSEL:

  • The Assistant County Counsel must have at least 2 to 3 years ofexperience in state and federal civil litigation, including Title 59 and civilrights law.
  • The Assistant County Counsel must be admitted to the NewJersey Bar and be in good standing.
  • The Assistant County Counsel should have experience withlabor and employment law matters.
  • The Assistant County Counsel should have knowledge of theNew Jersey Civil Service system and collective bargaining negotiations(preferred).
    KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, ABILITIES:

    • Strong understanding of state and federal litigationprocedures.
    • Excellent legal research, analytical thinking, and writingskills.
    • Effective verbal communication and ability to explain legalmatters clearly.
    • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
    • Demonstrated commitment to public service, confidentiality,and professional ethics.
