Description:

Supply Chain Specialist

Borg Design is seeking a detail-oriented Manufacturing Supply Chain Specialist to support our CNC machining and manufacturing operations serving the aerospace, defense, medical device, automotive, and industrial markets. This position is responsible for sourcing materials, hardware, tooling, and outside services while ensuring quality, cost, delivery, and customer requirements are met.

The ideal candidate has purchasing or supply chain experience in a precision manufacturing environment and understands the documentation, traceability, and compliance requirements associated with aerospace, defense, and DoD contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Request and evaluate supplier quotations for raw materials, hardware, tooling, and outside processing services.
  • Create and manage purchase orders based on production schedules, job requirements, and inventory needs.
  • Source metals and specialty materials commonly used in precision machining.
  • Coordinate outside services such as heat treating, plating, anodizing, grinding, welding, and nondestructive testing.
  • Review purchase requirements for specifications, revisions, certifications, inspection requirements, and required flow-down provisions.
  • Ensure suppliers provide required documentation, including material certifications, Certificates of Conformance, test reports, and process certifications.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and communicate with suppliers regarding delivery dates, shortages, delays, and quality concerns.
  • Compare supplier pricing, lead times, quality performance, and delivery history.
  • Maintain approved supplier records and support supplier qualification and performance reviews.
  • Coordinate with Procurement, Estimating, Engineering, Quality, Production, and Project Management to ensure materials and services meet job requirements.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory, supplier, and job-related information in the company’s ERP system.
  • Identify supply chain risks and recommend alternate sources or purchasing strategies.
  • Support receiving and Quality with discrepancies, damaged materials, incorrect documentation, and nonconforming products.
  • Assist with inventory control, material availability, and purchasing forecasts.
  • Protect sensitive customer, technical, and controlled information in accordance with company security policies.
  • Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits related to purchasing and supplier controls.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the changing needs of the department and organization.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or materials coordination, preferably in CNC machining or precision manufacturing.
  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or DoD-related manufacturing is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of metals, manufacturing processes, hardware, tooling, and outside processing services.
  • Ability to read and understand purchase requirements, drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.
  • Familiarity with supplier certifications, material traceability, Certificates of Conformance, and quality documentation.
  • Understanding of AS9100, ISO 9001, ITAR, EAR, DFARS, CMMC, or NIST SP 800-171 requirements is preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing production requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing ERP systems; JobBOSS experience is a plus.
  • High level of accuracy, discretion, and attention to detail.

Because this position may involve access to export-controlled technical data, Controlled Unclassified Information, or information associated with DoD contracts, candidates must meet all applicable U.S. person and customer eligibility requirements. Any citizenship or work-status requirement will be applied only when required by law, regulation, contract, or the specific duties of the position.

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Primarily an office-based position within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to periodically enter production, receiving, inspection, and inventory areas.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular use of computers, phones, and ERP systems.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience working in a high-mix, low-to-medium-volume job shop.
  • Established knowledge of aerospace and defense suppliers.
  • Familiarity with counterfeit-parts prevention and specialty-metals requirements.
  • Ability to balance cost savings with quality, compliance, and delivery performance.
  • Proactive approach to supplier communication and supply
