Our Irving, Texas, office places us in a dynamic center of culture, business, and entertainment, keeping us closely connected to innovation and growth. Our Draper, Utah, location, nestled in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley, connects us to a rapidly growing tech ecosystem and provides access to the outdoor lifestyle and natural beauty the region is known for.
We are actively recruiting for a Product Underwriter - Commercial Lines for our fast-paced and growing Product Department. Ideally, this role will be based in our Irving, TX office, but will consider hybrid or remote for the right experience.
This role is built for an experienced commercial underwriter who is ready to do more than work submissions. You will bring your underwriting judgment to bear on how the product itself is designed: the forms, the appetite, the guidelines, the portfolio strategy. You will also serve as the senior underwriting voice on referrals. If you have been the underwriter on the desk who other people come to with hard accounts and questions about why guidelines say what they say, this role gives you a seat at the table where those guidelines are written.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Underwriting Leadership & Referrals
- Serve as the referral underwriter for complex submissions, larger accounts, and accounts that fall outside front-line authority across all lines of business
- Bring underwriting discipline to the design of the product — translating years of desk experience into the guidelines, eligibility criteria, and appetite that will govern the book
- Document referral patterns and feed them back into refinements of underwriting guidelines and authority levels
Product Build & Forms Strategy
- Partner with the CUO and Head of Commercial Lines to define product appetite and underwriting guidelines
- Contribute to forms strategy and helping design proprietary endorsements that address coverage gaps and differentiate the product
- Collaborate with Actuarial on the translation of underwriting judgment into rating variables and rules
- Partner with IT on PAS and rating engine configuration — the underwriting questions, business rules, and referral triggers that will shape day-to-day workflows
- Work with Legal and Compliance on form filings and admitted vs. non-admitted product structure
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU:
Education and Work Authorization
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Business Management, Economics is preferred
- Authorized to work in the U.S. (U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder)
Required Experience
- 4+ years of hands-on commercial property and casualty underwriting experience, with a track record of managing a profitable book of business
- Strong working knowledge of commercial forms — CGL, BOP, Commercial Property — and how endorsements modify base coverage
- Demonstrated underwriting judgment on complex or non-standard accounts — the kind of judgment that comes from years of working the desk
- Strong portfolio mindset — able to think beyond the individual account to what a book of business needs to perform
- Comfort with ambiguity and the build environment; this is a buildout inside an established company, and the right person will help shape decisions rather than wait for them
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Experience
- CPCU, CIC, AU, or other commercial P&C underwriting designations
- Prior experience contributing to product development, forms drafting, or underwriting guideline authoring • Experience underwriting through independent agent distribution channels
- Familiarity with policy administration systems and rating engines from an underwriting user's perspective
- Prior involvement in launching a new product or entering a new state
