Position Summary
The Dental Assistant assists the dental provider team in all aspects of dental care delivery, including advanced or specialized dental assistant duties.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation for this position is $22.00 - $28.00 hourly. WCC offers competitive salary and benefits including medical, dental and vision health insurance plans, 10 vacation days for first year employees, 12 paid holidays, sick leave, life insurance, a retirement plan, and an employee assistance program.
Education and Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required
· Graduate of an accredited Dental Assisting program required
· Dental Assistant Certificate (completion of dental assisting course through the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools) required
· Radiographic certification required
· Coronal Polish/Topical Applicator certification required
· Provider-level Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
· Minimum one year of recent dental assisting experience preferred
· Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification preferred
Essential Position Responsibilities
· Greets patients, screens for program eligibility, and manages check-in including appointment verification, sign-in, and distribution of patient forms
· Enters and updates patient data in the computer system
· Escorts patients from the check-in area to dental operatories
· Takes radiographs
· Cleans, sterilizes, and packages dental instruments; maintains lab cleanliness; sets up dental trays for procedures
· Performs hard and soft tissue and periodontal charting under the supervision of the Dentist
· Assists the Dentist with prophylaxes, operative restorations, sealants, root canals, pulpotomies, pulpectomies, extractions, and mouth mirror inspections
· Performs expanded functions including coronal polishing and application of topical fluoride post-scaling
· Provides oral hygiene education to patients and families
· Ensures accurate and complete documentation of all patient care activities
· Complies with all applicable agency and regulatory requirements
· Performs a variety of clerical, patient scheduling, and clinical functions as needed to provide backup support to clerical and hygiene staff
· Complete other duties as assigned in support of WCC's mission.
Skills
· Knowledge of dental/medical information and techniques used to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities
· Knowledge of HIPAA privacy and confidentiality requirements
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office; professional verbal and written communication skills
· Familiarity with medical terminology
· Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Excellent customer service skills with the ability to relate to patients and coworkers from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds
· Active listening skills and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally
· Ability to remain calm and composed in emergency situations
· Punctual, reliable, and professional in both demeanor and appearance
· Bilingual/bicultural in English and Spanish preferred
