The Part-Time Occupational Therapist delivers occupational therapy services to an assigned student caseload, including compensation, remediation and prevention strategies and adaptations, with a focus on functional mobility and safe, efficient access to and participation in activities and routines in natural learning environments. The part-time OT independently evaluates student needs within their assigned caseload, plans and provides interventions, and supports motor development and participation in everyday routines and activities that are part of the educational program. Occupational therapy interventions promote skill acquisition and environmental adaptation and are commonly embedded within the context of student activities and routines.


Essential Job Functions
  • Gather appropriate information from students, parents, and team members regarding functional motor performance in school settings for students on the assigned caseload
  • Administer and interpret screening instruments and standardized measurement tools for assigned students within the scope of occupational therapy services, with supervisory oversight from the full-time OT
  • Review student data, history, and assessment information to plan services aligned with student goals for the assigned caseload
  • Implement occupational therapy interventions and activities for assigned students, exercising clinical judgment within the scope of the role and under supervision of the full-time OT
  • Adapt environments to facilitate student access and participation in the educational program for assigned students, in coordination with the supervising OT
  • Collect data and monitor progress for students on the assigned occupational therapy caseload
  • Attend IEP and reevaluation meetings for students on the assigned caseload, communicating occupational therapy findings and recommendations in clear, accessible language for parents and other team members
  • Provide direct support and instruction to parents, support staff, teachers, and other school personnel regarding:
    • Physical strengths and needs of students, such as safe lifting, positioning, and assisted ambulation
    • Gross motor programs and equipment use
    • Strategies to promote student participation within the educational experience
  • Implement assistive technology and adaptive equipment strategies for assigned students, with supervisory support from the full-time OT
  • Complete progress reports and documentation for children receiving services on the assigned caseload
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and Tennyson Center policy
  • Collect and contribute data for quality improvement initiatives and program evaluation related to occupational therapy outcomes
  • Primarily work independently in clinical decision-making and service delivery for the assigned caseload while maintaining supervisory oversight and regular consultation with the full-time OT
  • Support quality improvement efforts through adherence to Tennyson Center policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and best practices
  • Communicate regularly with the supervising OT regarding student progress, concerns, recommendations, and clinical decision-making for the assigned caseload
  • Gathering appropriate information from students, parents and other team members regarding the child’s functional motor performance in school settings


Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting of 5 to 10 pounds
  • Occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds
  • Frequent sitting, bending, walking, stooping, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and standing
  • Ability to respond appropriately to student needs in an educational environment
  • Must be able to successfully complete a pre-hire physical
  • May be required to assist with physical strengths and needs of students as needed
  • Must be able to successfully complete a pre-hire physical
  • Must be able to perform physical restraints or containments with an aggressive, physically acting-out child

Working Conditions
  • In person on campus work/school and treatment environment
  • Part-time schedule: 20 hours per week (flexible scheduling to be determined)
  • Works under the supervision of the Full-Time Occupational Therapist while independently managing and delivering services to an assigned student caseload

Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Valid Special Services Providers License in Occupational Therapy from Colorado Department of Education (CDE)
  • Spanish speaking is preferred, but not required
  • All candidates must have (or qualify to obtain) a current Colorado driver's license
  • All positions require a pre-employment drug test, FBI fingerprint check, CBI criminal records check, child abuse registry check, motor vehicle record check, academic record verification, and reference checks

The estimated hourly rate for this role is $34.00 - $35.00 per hour.
