The Senior Fire Protection Designer will be responsible for developing compliant, high-quality fire sprinkler designs while supporting project execution and collaboration across multiple teams. The role requires strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage projects through all design phases.
- Create detailed fire sprinkler system layouts and design drawings using HydraCAD software.
- Perform hydraulic calculations, material take-offs, and design validations according to NFPA standards and applicable local codes.
- Review architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings to ensure proper coordination and system integration.
- Prepare project submittals, fabrication drawings, and final as-built documentation.
- Partner with project managers, estimators, engineers, contractors, and field supervisors to ensure design requirements and compliance expectations are met.
- Participate in project meetings and communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers, supporting knowledge sharing and team development.
- Stay informed on updates to fire protection regulations, including NFPA, IBC, IFC, and other applicable standards.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in fire protection design, strong knowledge of sprinkler system requirements, and the ability to independently manage complex design assignments. Candidates should combine technical expertise with strong communication and organizational skills.
- 5–10 years of experience in fire sprinkler or fire protection system design.
- Proficiency with design tools such as HydraCAD, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and/or Revit.
- Strong understanding of NFPA standards, FM Global requirements, and applicable fire and building codes.
- Experience producing hydraulic calculations, layouts, fabrication drawings, and project documentation.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with engineers, contractors, project teams, and regulatory authorities.
- Strong problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a remote work environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- NICET Level III or IV certification in Water-Based Systems Layout is preferred.
