Job Summary:
A Cardiology Advanced Practice Provider Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant diagnoses, treats, and manages acute and chronic heart diseases in collaboration with attending cardiologists
Responsibilities include conducting physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostics such as EKGs and labs, prescribing medications, and managing patient care in outpatient clinics, hospitals, or intensive care units
Core Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive history and physical exams for new and established cardiac patients,
Diagnostic & Treatment Management:
- Order, track, and interpret diagnostic studies (labs, echocardiograms, stress tests, Holter monitors),
Pharmacotherapy:
- Prescribe and adjust cardiovascular medications (antiarrhythmics, heart failure therapies, anticoagulants) under practice protocols,
Patient Education:
- Counsel patients and families on heart-healthy lifestyle modifications, risk factor reduction, and disease self-management
Care Coordination:
- Facilitate smooth transitions of care, specialist referrals, and multidisciplinary team communication
Clinical Settings & Specialized Duties
Outpatient Clinic:
- Manage stable chronic conditions hypertension, hyperlipidemia, coronary artery disease, heart failure and perform routine follow-ups
Inpatient / ICU:
- Perform daily rounds, manage acute coronary syndromes or post-procedural recovery, and assist with emergency response
Sub-Specialty Focus e,g, Electrophysiology, Interventional:
- Evaluate device checks, manage arrhythmia protocols, or assist in procedural areas/cath labs as credentialed
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education:
- Masters or Doctorate degree as a Nurse Practitioner NP or Physician Assistant (PA
Licensure & Certification:
- Active state nursing/PA license, board certification ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA,
Life Support:
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications,
Experience:
- Prior cardiology or critical care experience is strongly preferred for advanced acuity positions
