Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Modular Designer based in United States.
This role offers the opportunity to lead the design and documentation of sophisticated modular systems supporting mission-critical data center infrastructure. You will develop mechanical enclosures, skid-based solutions, and integrated modular components from concept through production. Working closely with engineering, project management, manufacturing, procurement, and field teams, you will ensure designs are technically accurate, manufacturable, and scalable. The position combines advanced mechanical design expertise with strong ownership of standards, documentation, and quality. You’ll contribute to proposals, design reviews, value engineering, production implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role also provides a pathway toward future leadership opportunities as the modular product portfolio expands.
- Lead the design and technical development of modular data center systems, including mechanical enclosures, skid frames, structural components, and integrated systems.
- Create and maintain detailed 3D models and technical drawings using SolidWorks, with support for AutoCAD and Revit coordination when required.
- Establish and maintain MCAD design standards, modular drawing templates, documentation workflows, and best practices aligned with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) principles.
- Ensure modular designs meet manufacturability, quality, performance, and production requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to junior designers and coordinate with external engineering or design resources when needed.
- Partner with Project Engineers to develop cost-effective solutions that satisfy technical, operational, and customer requirements.
- Support proposals and client bids by developing conceptual layouts, preliminary designs, and modular solutions during early project phases.
- Participate in design reviews, value engineering sessions, and technical discussions with internal teams and clients.
- Support factory and field teams during manufacturing, installation, and implementation activities.
- Develop complete shop drawing packages, “A” specification documentation, technical reports, assembly instructions, and other production or client documentation.
- Maintain design files, revisions, version control, and documentation required for production and client submittals.
- Help implement ISO 9001-compliant documentation and quality practices for modular products.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Production, Procurement, and Project Management to ensure design intent is accurately translated into manufacturing.
- Collaborate with vendors and fabrication partners on specifications, materials, technical requirements, and deliverables.
- Respond to RFIs and design-related questions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Promote scalable modular design practices and contribute to continuous improvements in products, workflows, and manufacturing processes.
- Monitor developments in modular construction, mechanical systems, and manufacturing technologies to identify opportunities for innovation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and design, with strong expertise in sheet metal design, structural frames using standard shapes, and welding practices.
- Strong mechanical design fundamentals, including experience with welded structures, mechanical enclosures, and modular systems.
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks; experience with AutoCAD and Revit is preferred.
- Experience designing for manufacturing and assembly, with a strong understanding of manufacturability and production requirements.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards, technical documentation, and quality management practices.
- Experience supporting product development and quality systems.
- Previous experience contributing to customer proposals, bids, or early-stage design development.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accuracy, and consistently meet project deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, project management, and external partners.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-driven, and capable of managing responsibilities independently.
- Customer-focused and solution-oriented, with strong technical judgment and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and evolving environment where priorities may change.
- Knowledge of piping and electrical systems is a plus.
- Competitive salary range of $95,000–$170,000 USD.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance through Cigna, effective the first of the month following hire.
- 401(k) retirement plan with automatic enrollment at 3%, company matching up to 4%, and potential profit-sharing opportunities.
- Employer-paid life insurance equal to 1x annual salary.
