The pharmacy technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacist in the day-to-day operations of a pharmacy, including processing prescriptions, managing inventory, and providing customer service to patients. The pharmacy technician must comply with all applicable laws and regulations related to pharmacy practice.

Areas of Accountability:

This position is directly accountable for the following key areas:

  • Process prescriptions accurately and in a timely manner, including entering prescription information into the pharmacy's computer system, counting and packaging medications, and labeling prescriptions with patient information.
  • Follow federal and state laws, professional standards, and ethical principles. Additionally, maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhere to infection-control protocols, and ensure medications are handled correctly to prevent errors.
  • Manage inventory levels of medications, ordering medications as necessary and ensuring that inventory is properly rotated and stored.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients,
  • Participate in quality assurance activities to enhance pharmacy operations.

Education, Licensure/Certification:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Texas Registered Pharmacy Technician license
  • PTCB Certification
  • Experience, Skills/Abilities Related Requirements:
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong adaptability and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to manage change effectively and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with pharmacy software
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks efficiently.

Continuing Education and Training Requirements:

  • Participate in training courses required by the agency, funding source(s), and/or as required by licensure if applicable.
