Description:

SUMMARY: This position will serve as a Supply Technician – material handler providing operations support pertaining to supply chain management for the Logistic Department Logistic Department, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The duties will include customer service, acquisitions, forward logistics, receiving, stocking, selecting and storing medical supply items, supply turn-in, and medical group vehicle care taking. This includes receiving, storing, selecting, shipping, pick-up and delivery of general or specialized bulk materials and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The contractor must be skilled in naval logistics, inventory, and shipping of material in accordance with Navy Medical Command regulations and policies.

The contractor must be highly skilled in standard warehousing operations for shipping, receiving, and storage of material.

The contractor must have good communications skills both orally and writing.

The contractor must be qualified to operate a forklift.

The contractor must have a valid state driver's license.

Education/Certification:

Must have a High School Diploma or GED

Experience: A minimum of two (2) year experience is required in warehouse operations for shipping, receiving, inventory and storage of material and the use of various materials handling equipment.

Physical Requirements: Work is a combination of sedentary duties as well as light to moderate physical effort. Requirements include walking, standing, reaching, bending and moving items. May require lifting and carrying weight over 40 pounds. Works periodically on hard surfaces.

Work Environment. Work is performed indoors in an environment involving everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions. The area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.

Other Considerations.

  1. May serve to train/guide lower grade (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
  2. The contractor may require driving privileges and be able to drive up to a 1.5 ton stake bed truck and 4-6K electric forklifts for the delivery of medical equipment, supplies, and furniture. A valid driver’s license is required for the position.

UNIQUE MILITARY HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS/PROCEDURES:

The contractor will be required to use the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support System(DMLSS) for basic routine ordering and issue procedures.

PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES:

Load and un-load material from both Government and commercial trucks or delivery services certifying quantities received/shipped according to transportation documents.

Log material in computer data base and inspect material for damages. Ensure proper storage for refrigerated and non-refrigerated material.

Conduct inventories, including wall to wall equipment inventories, disaster preparedness stock, Defense Reutilization Marketing Office (DRMO) disposal, excess supplies, furniture and equipment, and other standard material processes during the course of this task.

Operate forklifts, powered and manually operated pallet jacks and other hand operated material handling equipment.

Demonstrate professional customer service habits to both in-house and outside co-workers and customers at all times. Monitor storage refrigerator and freezer temperatures and make reports of temperature readings when outside prescribed limits at the time of discovery.

Be responsible for the handling of supplies, including the operation of handling aids and equipment used in the receipt and placement of incoming supplies. Assists with verifying the amount and type of supplies for Central Supply Division and the Pharmacy as shown on the receipt document.

Implements proper methods in handling hazardous, valuable, or other types of material that could result in severe loss or damage.

The receiving section of this division is responsible for the receipt and distribution of all supplies from incoming shipments. The contractor shall note any exceptions such as shortages or overages, damages, and incorrect materiel received. The contractor shall obtain appropriate receipt signatures and process all support documents of supplies delivered.

The contractor is authorized to operate a Government owned vehicles and other Material Handling Equipment (MHE).

Load and unload approximately 10 to 20 trucks daily.

Log approximately 25 to 30 entries of material into computer tracking system daily.

Deliver material to 20 to 25 WRNMMC local departments daily.
