Job Description

Staff Software Engineer - Data Integration

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer - Data Integration based in the United States.

This is a high-impact engineering role focused on the connectors and parsers that power a data intelligence platform for regulated enterprises.
You will work at the intersection of data engineering, systems integration, metadata, and modern AI-assisted development.
Your work will transform complex legacy data sources into trusted lineage and dependency models that help customers understand migration risks.
You will build integrations across legacy ETL platforms, databases, cloud systems, proprietary formats, and undocumented technologies.
As part of a small, early-stage product team, you will have significant ownership over architecture, implementation, testing, and technical direction.
The environment is fast-moving and AI-first, with an expectation that you use modern AI tools to accelerate development while maintaining rigorous engineering standards.
This is an opportunity to solve challenging technical problems, establish reusable engineering patterns, and directly shape a critical product capability.

Accountabilities:
  • Build and maintain robust connectors for legacy ETL platforms, databases, modern cloud data systems, and other enterprise technologies.
  • Develop parsers capable of processing XML, SQL, repository exports, scripts, and vendor-specific or proprietary formats.
  • Transform extracted metadata into accurate lineage, dependency, and transformation models that customers can trust.
  • Create automated tests, validation frameworks, and known-good datasets to continuously verify connector accuracy and reliability.
  • Partner with senior technical leadership to improve the connector framework, establish reusable architectural patterns, and document best practices.
  • Reverse engineer unfamiliar or poorly documented systems to understand their structures, dependencies, and transformation logic.
  • Integrate AI into everyday engineering workflows, using it to accelerate reverse engineering, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and problem solving while retaining ownership of technical decisions and final output quality.
  • Contribute to a fast-moving product environment where shipping quickly, validating thoroughly, and iterating based on real-world findings are essential.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in data engineering, metadata management, systems integration, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL platforms, SQL parsing, data lineage, transformation logic, or comparable data integration technologies.
  • Strong ability to reverse engineer unfamiliar systems, including technologies with limited or incomplete documentation.
  • Professional experience with TypeScript and a strong understanding of automated software testing practices.
  • Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools as an integrated part of the software engineering lifecycle, rather than only as an occasional productivity aid.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical engineering mindset, with a willingness to investigate issues deeply and fix problems rather than work around them.
  • Ability to operate effectively in an early-stage environment with evolving requirements, limited precedent, and significant individual ownership.
  • A bias toward action, rapid delivery, thorough validation, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with architects and other technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with Informatica PowerCenter, DataStage, Talend, SSIS, or similar enterprise platforms is a plus.
  • Familiarity with graph models, OpenMetadata, OpenLineage, compilers, parsers, SQL transformation frameworks, or related technologies is advantageous.
  • Experience delivering software in regulated, security-sensitive, or highly controlled environments is also a plus.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer without current or future visa sponsorship and must reside in an eligible U.S. state or Washington, DC.
Benefits:
  • Estimated annual compensation range of $180,000–$225,000 USD, with final compensation determined by factors including experience, skills, education, location, and internal equity.
  • Potential eligibility for discretionary bonuses, commissions, or other incentive programs.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Paid time off and additional employee benefits.
  • Opportunity to work within a small, growing team with substantial ownership and influence over product and engineering decisions.
  • Collaborative environment focused on solving meaningful business and technology challenges.
  • Exposure to modern AI-assisted engineering practices and complex enterprise data technologies.
  • Equal opportunity workplace committed to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities.
