Job Description
The City of Pittsburg is seeking Veterans to join our Public Works' Parks and Landscape Division as a Maintenance Aide. The Veterans will receive job training to address illegal dumpling and littering at designated sites. As a Maintenance Aide, you will assist with a variety of park and landscape maintenance tasks under the guidance of a supervisor or lead staff member. Key Responsibilities:
General building and park cleaning including, restrooms, emptying trash containers and general cleaning work around parks and facilities
Litter abatement; assist with ordinance violated related to dumping and litter
May assist with general landscape maintenance and park upkeep
May operate tools and equipment such as chainsaws, weed trimmers, blowers, and chippers
Follow safety procedures and City guidelines
Support the team in maintaining clean and welcoming outdoor spaces

Flexibility to work varied hours, including early mornings, weekends, holidays, or overtime
Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods

Great interpersonal skills and the ability to interact respectfully with the public and team members
Basic mechanical aptitude: previous landscaping or maintenance experience is desirable but not required

Hourly Pay: $20.81

About Pittsburg, CA
The City of Pittsburg is a culturally rich and diverse community of over 76,000 residents and expected to grow to 90,000 in the next 20 years. Pittsburg is located in the Bay Area Region of Northern California and is perfectly situated for easy access to San Francisco, Napa Valley, Sacramento, the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and Lake Tahoe. The City of Pittsburg is a full-service city following the council-manager form of government. The City has approximately 300 full time employees and at times, up to 350 employees total (depending on the season). Pittsburg is currently organized into the following departments: City Management, Community and Economic Development (Building, Economic Development, Code Enforcement, and Planning), Community Services (Housing Authority, Pittsburg Power Company, and the Successor Agency to the former Redevelopment Agency, CDBG/Housing Rehabilitation, Environmental Services, Waterfront Administration, and Property Management), Recreation, Human Resources, Finance, Police, and Public Works (Engineering, Operations/Maintenance, Utilities, Facilities, Parks/Landscape, and Water Treatment).
License: Must possess a valid California driver's license.
Background Requirements: Ability to successfully pass driver's license check, livescan/fingerprint background and drug/TB screening.

2. Interviews: Accepted applicants will be interviewed by park supervisory staff and offered a seasonal job if successful during interview and have provided a clean driving record printout to the hiring supervisor.
3. Pre-Employment Screening/New Hires: Candidates will be fingerprinted for a background check and submit results for a drug screening test as part of pre-employment. Successful candidates who pass the background process will complete new hire paperwork and begin work soon after.
