As a Senior Database Engineer, you will own the reliability, performance, automation, and evolution of enterprise database platforms. You will help move database operations toward scalable engineering practices by combining technical expertise with process improvement, automation, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Administer, optimize, and support enterprise SQL Server environments hosted in cloud infrastructure, ensuring availability, performance, and reliability.
- Design and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including clustering, replication, failover strategies, and recovery testing.
- Monitor database performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement improvements using advanced diagnostics and monitoring tools.
- Automate database administration tasks through scripting, Infrastructure as Code, and repeatable engineering processes.
- Develop solutions using PowerShell, T-SQL, Terraform, CloudFormation, and related automation technologies to reduce operational effort.
- Integrate database practices into CI/CD workflows, supporting automated deployments, schema versioning, and modern release processes.
- Partner with application, DevOps, infrastructure, and engineering teams to improve database architecture and deployment reliability.
- Support cloud modernization initiatives, including migration efforts and adoption of additional managed database technologies.
- Improve platform reliability through monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, performance optimization, and operational improvements.
- Mentor team members, create documentation and operational standards, and contribute to building a proactive database engineering culture.
- Participate in production support activities and on-call rotations while continuously reducing operational risks.
The ideal candidate is an experienced database engineer with strong SQL Server expertise and a passion for automation, cloud technologies, and operational excellence. You should be comfortable working in complex enterprise environments, collaborating across teams, and driving improvements through engineering best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience managing SQL Server databases in enterprise production environments.
- Strong expertise in SQL Server administration, performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Proven experience designing and supporting high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, clustering, replication, and failover testing.
- Experience supporting cloud-based database environments, particularly SQL Server workloads running on AWS infrastructure.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, T-SQL, and related tools.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, deployment automation, and DevOps practices.
- Experience with observability and monitoring solutions for database performance and reliability.
- Knowledge of secure database practices, including encryption, auditing, access controls, and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience with database CI/CD and schema management tools such as Flyway, Liquibase, or SSDT.
- Experience supporting PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora, DynamoDB, or other cloud database technologies.
- Familiarity with AWS services such as Glue, Lambda, OpenSearch, or Bedrock.
- Experience working in regulated industries such as healthcare, insurance, or financial services.
- Exposure to AI-enabled data platforms and modern data engineering practices.
- Competitive base salary range of $140,000 - $160,000 USD, with final compensation based on experience, skills, education, and location.
