About This Position
Position Overview:
The Externship Coordinator is responsible for securing and managing clinical placements for Allied Health students while serving as the primary liaison between the college, students, and clinical partners. This role is critical to student success, program completion, and employer pipeline development. This position requires a strong on-campus presence, relationship-building with healthcare partners, and the ability to manage a high volume of students across multiple programs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Secure and coordinate clinical placements for students across all allied health programs current and future at the college.
• Build and maintain relationships with hospitals, clinics, and outpatient facilities to expand clinical site partnerships.
• Conduct in-person and virtual clinical site visits and act as the liaison between MCC and clinical partners.
• Assess student readiness and assign appropriate clinical placements based on performance, compliance, and program requirements.
• Monitor student progress, attendance, and performance during clinical rotations.
• Ensure students meet all externship requirements (compliance, onboarding, scheduling, professionalism).
• Address and resolve student or site concerns in a timely and professional manner.
• Track and report placement activity, site capacity, and student status weekly.
• Participate in weekly externship production meetings and present placement updates.
• Maintain accurate student records and follow up on attendance and compliance issues.
• Collaborate with Program Directors and internal teams to align placement strategy with program needs.
• Support onboarding of new clinical sites, including affiliation agreements and documentation.
• Assist students with understanding clinical expectations, schedules, and site requirements.
Performance Expectations:
• Meet placement targets for assigned cohorts and programs.
• Actively develop new clinical sites and maintain existing relationships.
• Maintain consistent communication with students and partners.
• Ensure timely placement to support on-time program completion.
Requirements:Qualifications:
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred (Healthcare, Education, Business, or related field).
• 1+ years of experience in healthcare, clinical coordination, education, or workforce development preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Student-focused mindset with strong problem-solving ability.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Work Environment:
• 60% field / 40% office (clinical site visits required).
• Local travel required within the region for site visits and partner meetings.
Work Location:
• On-site at assigned campus (Cleveland or Columbus).
