Description:

Wildcat is seeking a electrical engineer to join our team developing custom research equipment used for the discovery of next generation batteries. This position will work closely with Wildcat scientists and engineers on all aspects of the discovery process.

The work environment is demanding, fast-paced, and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits, as they join a world-class scientific team dedicated to developing and discovering advanced materials for lithium-ion batteries.

Wildcat Discovery Technologies, based in San Diego, California, is a materials R&D company transitioning its focus from battery research and development to cathode material supply. Our commitment lies in the discovery and development of advanced materials for lithium-ion batteries.

We follow three strategic paths:

1. Collaborating on projects to enhance battery performance through material optimization.

2. Developing proprietary battery materials for next-generation electrodes and electrolytes.

3. Production of a series of cathode active materials.

Wildcat collaborates with industry leaders around the world to develop promising new materials for rechargeable and primary battery technologies using our state-of-the-art high throughput platform (HTP) combinational chemistry and cell testing capabilities.

Requirements:

Essential Functions

  • Design, develop, implement a nd test electrical devices/machines for use in high throughput laboratory automation.
  • Manufacture, assemble and maintain new test equipment, related software and procedures.
  • Work with Wildcat engineers and scientists to improve existing cell testing equipment, laboratory equipment, and other processes.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and reports at internal technical meetings.
  • Manage BOMs, inventory, ordering, and part substitutions in Excel.
  • Work with outside vendors for additional manufacturing (PCB/harness fabrication and assembly)
  • Identify shortcomings of existing equipment/designs and make improvements
  • Work with mechanical and electrical technicians during assembly, implementation, maintenance and repairs
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues (both off the shelf and custom); work with engineering team to resolve
  • Develop robust hardware designs to ensure longevity in industrial environment
  • Maintain existing and create new firmware functions in C programming
  • Maintain existing and create new PCBs with Altium Designer
  • Maintain existing and create new schematics with Visio or other schematic software

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Experience developing complex electrical and electro-mechanical systems, including the integration of mechanical designs, electrical designs, control systems/software and motion controls
  • Experience creating wiring schematics and fabricating basic wiring harnesses
  • Experience with electrical system assembly and soldering
  • Experience with structured language computer programming (C, C++, Java, HTML, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently, effectively using problem solving skills to design and implement solutions
  • Proven track record of innovation, problem solving and successful technical results
  • PCB design experience with Altium Designer preferred
  • Experience writing and maintaining embedded firmware preferred
  • Experience with CANbus, ADCs, flash memory, Ethernet and control loops preferred
  • Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with Technicians, Engineers, Research Associates and Scientists

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in electrical engineering or computer engineering

3 - 5 years of relevant work experience

Salary Range

$102,000 to $128,000 annual salary
