This role is onsite only. No remote opportunity.
Overall Responsibility:
In this role, you will lead a team of ISDs based in Melbourne, FL to create high-quality training courseware for the operation and maintenance of complex defense systems. You will provide strategic direction, establish/enforce design standards, and collaborate with project leadership to ensure successful delivery of training solutions. This leadership role requires on-site presence (4/10 schedule with every Friday off) and offers no remote work options.
DiSTI seeks candidates with extensive experience developing interactive e-learning across multiple delivery modalities. Candidates must have a deep understanding of instructional design principles and learning theory, as well as a strong visual design sensibility for creating effective instructional materials. A proven ability to collaborate effectively with SMEs, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders is critical to success in this position.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead a team of ISDs, providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development
- Guide project execution by directing team efforts, removing obstacles, and ensuring timely delivery
- Perform work with limited direction
- Apply creative problem-solving to complex instructional design challenges
- Instructional Design Strategy & Standards:
- Advise project leadership on training strategies, emerging learning technologies, and best practices
- Establish and enforce instructional design policies, standards, and quality benchmarks
- Scale design operations to meet evolving program demands
- Apply instructional design principles and learning theory to create effective training for diverse audiences
- Project Execution & Collaboration:
- Manage collaboration across a cross-functional team including many Subject Matter Experts (engineers, maintainers, operators) to ensure technical accuracy and instructional effectiveness
- Monitor project health under Project Manager direction, tracking progress against goals, schedules, and budgets; identifying and mitigating risks proactively to keep the project on track
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of direct ISD experience in the defense industry, with 3+ years in a lead or supervisory role; additional relevant experience may be considered
- Academic background in instructional design, educational technology, courseware development, or related field
- Expertise in multimedia principles applicable to the design/development phases of the ADDIE Model
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences (technical teams, leadership, customers)
- Experience working in deadline-driven, high-expectation environments
Requirements:
- Daily travel to offices in Brevard County Required
- Schedule: 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off)
- Setting: Mix of office and laboratory environments with regular team collaboration
- Active DOD Secret clearance (must be current at time of hire)
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a substantial amount of time operating a computer terminal.
