Job Purpose
Environmental Inspector responsible for supporting the environmental compliance team with oversight of a bridge construction project in Washington, DC and Arlington, VA, primarily assisting with environmental inspections and ensuring compliance with environmental permits, approvals, regulations, and standards. This role requires conducting field activities for 8 hours a day, up to 5 days (40 hours) a week (Monday through Saturday). Overtime may be allowed with pre-approval.

Compensation Range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00 The compensation for this role is commensurate with experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental inspections during all phases of construction to ensure compliance with permit conditions, approvals, and agency regulations and standards
- Conduct erosion and sediment control inspections
- Prepare detailed and accurate reports using field tablets and job specific applications
- Attend agency inspections and communicate with various stakeholders
- Review construction plan sets, SWPPPs, and various environmental submittals to ensure field activities are consistent with approved plans/submittals
- Conduct monthly reviews to audit Design-Builders environmental deliverables, SWPPP, and inspection reports
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field
Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental compliance or similar field. Proficiency in MS Office. Well-developed organizational and communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to understand construction design plans and interpret plans in all phases of construction
- Strong knowledge of Federal, state, and local environmental regulations and policies, and ability to understand environmental permits
- Experience with design-build projects
- Experience conducting construction-phase inspections, preferably in the greater DC-VA-MD region
- Ability to work on multiple contracts simultaneously and in an organized fashion
- Experience using GPS, tablet computers, and other field equipment
- Ability to maintain accurate reports and records
- Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Ability to exercise firmness, tact, and integrity
- Possess Virginia Erosion & Sediment Control Inspector and Stormwater Management Inspector certifications
- Possess EPA’s Construction Inspection Training Certification
- Possess a valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
