Job Summary
MCM is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Registered Architect with extensive knowledge in large scale architecture and construction projects to work with our client's team in Philadelphia. The ideal candidate must be a Registered Architect with a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a NAAB-accredited college or university and experience in the building and facilities construction industry. Primarily, this position will involve projects at existing buildings, new construction and associated support facilities. Typical projects include interior modernizations, improvements, major renovations and new construction.
Essential responsibilities will include the following:
- Generate and advertise RFPs for the selection of third-party design firms.
- Review and approve proposals submitted by third-party design firms.
- Manage design contracts and review/approve invoices from design consultants.
- Prepare scope determination reports for Capital Improvement Projects, including building surveys, envelope system assessments, conceptual designs, building assessments, and field inspections.
- Perform technical review and approval of design development drawings and construction documents.
- Prepare bid specifications and Invitations for Bids (IFBs), and provide design support to the Capital Improvement Project Team during the bidding and construction phases.
- Contribute to the evaluation, restoration, repair design, and preservation of existing historic schools, construction materials, and building systems.
- Coordinate with the Philadelphia Department of Licenses and Inspections (L&I) and other external agencies.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure constructability, code compliance, and integration of building systems.
- Collaborate with internal departments, including Environmental, Construction, Facilities and Maintenance, and Space Planning.
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, code analyses, and construction details for compliance with project scope, applicable codes, and the client’s standards.
- Conduct site visits, document existing conditions, and provide recommendations for repairs, renovations, and building improvements.
- Coordinate architectural work with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, environmental, and civil disciplines.
Additional Functions
- Perform related work as required.
- Support development of long-range facilities plans and capital investment strategies.
- Assist in evaluating consultant and contractor performance.
- Participate in special initiatives related to facilities planning, funding, and capital program governance.
- Respond to inquiries from our client's staff, building staff, facilities and community stakeholders regarding capital projects.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited program.Licensed Architect registered in Pennsylvania.At least ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional experience in architectural design, building assessments, construction documentation, and project coordination for schools, commercial buildings, and institutional or public facilities.Thorough knowledge of applicable building codes and standards, including the City of Philadelphia Building Code, IBC, AISC, ACI, and other relevant design and material standards.Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating the building permit process with the City of Philadelphia, including submissions, plan review responses, and regulatory approvals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities as follows:
- Proficiency in architectural design and documentation software, including Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, and SketchUp.
- Working knowledge of building materials, envelope systems, interior finishes, space planning, and programming.
- Ability to develop and issue Requests for Proposals for third-party design firms and consultants.
- Understanding of architectural design, renovation, remodeling, permitting, and construction administration processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate with internal departments, consultants, contractors, and external agencies.
- Experience with the City of Philadelphia building permit process and coordination with regulatory agencies.
- Ability to prepare technical documents, reports, and specifications for construction professionals, while effectively
- presenting technical information to non-technical audiences and decision-makers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Adobe Creative Suite and related project documentation tools.
