Job Description

The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

Pemmican Publications Incorporated (Pemmican) was founded as a non-profit organization in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1980 by the Manitoba Métis Federation. It is a Red River Métis owned and operated publishing house in Canada. Pemmican’s mandate is to publish books by Red River Métis authors and illustrators with an emphasis on Métis-relevant stories.

Pemmican Publications seeks to fill one full-time Program Coordinator position located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. The Program Coordinator plans, implements, coordinates, and oversees the department's programs to ensure that established goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with prescribed priorities, budgetary guidelines, and work plan activities.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs, services, contracts, and overall publishing activities;
  • Coordinate print and publishing projects, working with editors, illustrators, designers, translators, and other external resources;
  • Support sales and marketing strategies, including book distribution, online sales, and international fulfillment;
  • Research, develop, and prepare program materials, policy papers, funding proposals, and other supporting documents;
  • Attend, organize, and coordinate book fairs, events, and promotional activities while supporting book sales and customer orders;
  • Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or relevant field; equivalent experience and training may be considered;
  • Experience in program coordination, project management, and event coordination;
  • Knowledge of program development, implementation, and management procedures;
  • Experience preparing funding proposals for social service projects and community programs;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and time-management skills;
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking skills;
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check is required;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
