Job Description: Backstage Technician

Location: Hersheypark, Hershey, PA (housing provided if needed)

Performance Dates: November 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29; December 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27

Salary: $850/week

Job Title: Backstage Crew Member (Stagehand)Position Overview
The Backstage Crew member supports all logistical and technical aspects of a live production behind the scenes. Responsibilities include executing rapid scene shifts, managing props, handling set pieces, and maintaining a safe backstage environment under fast-paced conditions.
Key Responsibilities

• Scene Shifts: Move, assemble, and strike scenery, furniture, and heavy set pieces on and off the stage quickly and quietly during transitions.
• Prop Management: Assist the Prop Master or ASM in tracking, placing, and resetting hand props and set decorations before, during, and after shows.
• Safety & Maintenance: Keep the backstage and wing areas clean, organized, and free of hazards during all rehearsals and performances.
• Cue Execution: Follow cues and directions precisely from the Stage Manager via headset or visual signals.
• General Support: Assist lighting, sound, or wardrobe departments with basic equipment moves or quick changes when required.

Qualifications & Skills

• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing for long periods, bending, and safely lifting/moving heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
• Attention to Detail: Able to memorize precise blocking, prop placements, and complex movement sequences in dark or cramped backstage spaces.
• Communication & Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly and calmly on headset and work effectively with a diverse cast and crew.
• Reliability & Punctuality: Must arrive on time for all scheduled calls, technical rehearsals, and performances (often 60 to 90 minutes before curtain).
• Experience: Prior backstage or stagehand experience in live entertainment is a plus, but a positive attitude and willingness to learn are essential.
