The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Surgical Technician is responsible for assisting the surgeon with all assigned procedures. The Surgical Technician will participate in the on-call rotation for weekdays, weekends and holidays. As a team member, they will set up rooms for procedures, arrange necessary equipment and mentor new employees as needed.

• A 560 Bed Community Hospital with a 10 Room OR/ASC Suite
• Heavy concentration in Ortho/Spine and Robotic Surgery
• JCAHO Total Joint Certification

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Surgical technologists in New Jersey healthcare facilities must meet one of the following requirements:

    (a) have successfully completed a nationally or regionally accredited educational program for surgical technologists;

    (b) holds and maintain a certified surgical technologist credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor, or other nationally recognized credentialing organization;

    (c) have completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps;

    (d) be employed as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility as of December 20, 2011;

    (e) be in the service of the federal government

Preferred:

  • One year of nursing assistant experience
  • One year of Operating Room experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Basic Life Support(BLS) through the American Heart Association

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working, 11:30am -10:00pm
  • Willing to take on call emergencies
  • Full-Time (FT)

Essential Functions:

  • Promotes and implements the concept of patient and family­-centered care
  • Observes and reports to the Registered Nurse patient’s response to intervention/treatments
  • Promotes a compassionate and supportive environment
  • Assists in the transport of patient when necessary
  • Records vital signs and bedside glucose testing results
  • Manages the care of the pre, intra, and post procedural patient according to hospital procedures and standards of care
  • Anticipates patient needs through frequent rounds, observation and communication
  • Collects specimens; labels accurately and ensures delivery to appropriate department
  • Recognizes and reports pertinent observations, changes in patient status, incidents and patient care activities to the professional registered nurse
  • Perform other duties as directed
  • Reinforces teaching to family and patient and reports any problems to Registered Nurse
  • Communicates and records pertinent information to appropriate individuals
  • Assisting in the transportation of patients to and from the surgical suite and employs safety measures to prevent fall and injury
  • Participates in the on­-call system for emergencies
  • Recognizes abnormal vital signs data and verbally reports same directly to the RN caring for the patient
  • Assists in the maintenance, care and cleanliness of supplies and equipment
  • Cleans and disinfects equipment following procedures as assigned
  • Orders all supplies needed from the storeroom and central supply
  • Stocks all supplies in appropriate locations
  • Maintains par level of supplies and reports all shortages to the charge nurse
  • Maintains the order of the utility rooms
  • Checks equipment and supplies for expiration dates
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment and performs proper surveillance for the prevention of falls for patients at risk
  • Identifies equipment problems and contacts appropriate departments for repair/replacement
  • Participates in the evaluation of new products
  • Utilizes equipment and supplies in a manner that achieves high productivity, cost effectiveness and waste reduction
  • Maintains a neat, clean working area
  • Demonstrates competency regarding emergency response plan, including infant abduction
  • Promotes a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and employees
  • Creates and promotes an environment conducive to teamwork and performance improvement
