Gersh Autism is seeking a dynamic and experienced HR Business Partner to join our team. This full-time position will be based out of our Brooklyn and Long Island City schools, supporting both locations directly while also providing HR partnership to other locations. You will serve as a strategic advisor and collaborative partner to site leadership, working to foster a culture of excellence and employee engagement across multiple locations.
In this role, you’ll lead and support critical HR programs, drive process improvements, and help build scalable people strategies that align with Gersh Autism’s mission and values.
**Please note, this role is heavily focused on hands-on employee relations.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a strategic HR partner to site leaders across NY, NH, and WA, aligning HR initiatives with organizational goals.
- Manage core HR operations, including HRIS administration, benefits oversight, policy updates, retention programs, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Identify, lead, and implement process improvements, leveraging technology to streamline HR workflows and reduce manual tasks.
- Provide expert guidance to leaders and team members on complex employee relations matters, including investigations, accommodations, and terminations.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Develop and deliver engaging training programs for managers and staff on topics such as performance management, soft skills, coaching, and policy adherence.
- Collaborate closely with other HR team members to maintain consistency and alignment across all locations.
- Promote a culture of inclusion, growth, and continuous learning within the HR team through mentorship and professional development opportunities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy
- Proven ability to manage a wide range of HR functions including employee relations, benefits, compliance, training, and HRIS
- Strong background in employee relations with hands-on experience conducting investigations and resolving sensitive workplace issues
- High integrity with demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) with the ability to influence and build trust at all levels of the organization
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with a high level of accuracy and follow-through
- Tech-savvy with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with HR systems preferred
- Collaborative, people-focused mindset with a service-oriented approach to supporting leaders and teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3–5 years specifically as an HR Business Partner supporting leadership and driving strategic initiatives.
- Proven experience managing employee relations, implementing HR programs, and working cross-functionally in a multi-site or matrixed environment.
- Experience in the education or healthcare sector is a plus, but not required
WORKING CONDITIONS
Full time, regular business hours Monday through Friday, primary location is between Brooklyn and Long Island City school locations. May need to help at other locations if needed.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to keep students safe from themselves and others and, in some cases, may need to implement CPI (therapeutic holds) procedures.
- Must be able to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations and, in some cases, be able to lift a child.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the workday
- Ability to lift (at least 50-65 pounds), assist, and/or physically support students, which may include lifting or guiding students of varying sizes
- Ability to physically intervene when required to ensure safety (per CPI training)
- Ability to remove oneself and/or others from unsafe situations quickly
- Ability to maintain attention and focus in a dynamic, high-stimulation environment
- Ability to multi-task and shift priorities quickly
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making, particularly in high-pressure or safety-sensitive situations
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain professional relationships
- Ability to perform duties under stress, including during behavioral escalations

Salary Range: $90,000-$135,000 (includes base plus KRA)
The pay range for this role is:
90,000 - 135,000 USD per year(Brooklyn)
