DIRECT REPORTS: Equipment Operator, Rubble Yard Sorter, Traffic Control

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Rubble Yard Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the rubble yard operations. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong communication, sound judgement, equipment operation experience, and the ability to respond quickly to changing conditions.

The ideal candidate is bilingual, works independently and provides on-site leadership and guidance, while also willing to perform whatever duties are necessary to keep the yard operating safely and efficiently.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

• Supervise, train, motivate and provide guidance to employees who work in the rubble yard.
• Oversee the day-to-day activities, workflow and employee assignments.
• Assess situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Respond appropriately to equipment issues, customer concerns, safety situations, and unexpected changes in workload.
• Lead by example and maintain a hands-on presence throughout the rubble yard operations.
• Monitor and regularly schedule removal of accumulated metal, trash under the belts and screen.
• Assist with loading, unloading sorting, moving and processing material when needed.
• Operate wheel loader or excavator as needed.
• Ensure all loads being dumped have adequate water applied as necessary to control dust and maintain compliance with safety and environmental requirements.
• Monitor the track out, adding straw waddles and tarps during rain events.
• Ensure all incoming loads are inspected and directed to correct designated dumping are to avoid rehandling and processing as well as improve traffic flow.
• Monitor dumping practices and correct improper material placement immediately to prevent costly and timely screening of material.
• Regularly inspect and quality-control piles of material to identify and remove contamination before material is processed and shipped.
• Conduct daily pre- and post-operation inspections, including checking diesel, propane, coolant, DEF, and hydraulic fluid levels; inspect hoses and components for signs of wear or damage; and maintain clean windows, mirrors, and cab areas to always ensure clear visibility and safe operation.
• Must be able to recognize mechanical issues with all equipment and report needs for repairs. Document on DVIR and/or utilizing fleet software.
• Maintain full understanding of yard processes, traffic flow, and material handling procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized rubble yard and proactively manage material levels and coordinate processing and outbound hauling to prevent excessive buildup of material in the yard.
• Effectively manage inbound and outbound material flow
• Monitor incoming loads and adjust operations based on production demands.
• Communication with Recycle Yard Facility Supervisor to coordinate outbound shipments to ensure adequate trucks and employees are available.
• Conduct routine inspections of yard and equipment and report maintenance needs.
• Ensure employees follow company policies, safety procedures and proper equipment operating practices by always taking extra precautions to work with the utmost care and consideration of other vehicles, and recycle yard personnel who may be walking, driving or working on the floor.
• Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, employees, and management.
• Work with Recycle Yard Facility Supervisor to address performance or operational concerns.
• Work with management to improve productivity, safety and overall rubble yard operations performance.
• Abide by all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as all company safety procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise equipment operator and oversite of sorters that work in rubble yard.

QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

• Previous lead or supervisory experience in construction, demolition or aggregate, or similar industrial environment preferred.
• Minimum three (3) years of wheel loader and excavator experience.
• Must possess skill, coordination, and awareness to operate heavy equipment in a safe manner with precision and efficiency for extended periods with continuous attention to detail and safety.
• Strong understanding of aggregate, rubble, or C&D operations.
• Strig communication and people-management skills.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential for collaborating with others, communicating, and speaking to supervisors, employees, and customers.
• Ability to supervise and direct team members at the rubble yard.
• Ability to adapt to changing conditions, based on material volume and job priorities.
• Keen attention to detail and situational awareness to maintain the safety of the work environment.
• Strong decision-making skills.
• Reliable attendance and dependable work ethic.
• Ability to perform physical and hands on rubble yard duties when necessary.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish required.

EDUCATION:

Less than high school education; and minimum three (3) years of equipment operator experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
