Job Description
Sunset Animal Hospital, located in Houston, Texas, is looking for stellar veterinary technicians with 2+ years of experience! We are a large multi-doctor practice that handles wellness and emergency needs 24/7. The ideal veterinary technician candidate not only has fantastic technical skills and medical knowledge, but has an equally impressive can-do attitude towards teamwork and client service. Please have a willingness to share your knowledge with others.
The ideal Veterinary Technician is highly proficient in these technical and knowledge-based areas:
- Collecting and documenting accurate history pertinent to reason for visit
- Ability to run multiple rooms concurrently and accurately
- Recognizing pain, changes in condition and/or other abnormalities
- Documenting observations and communications accurately
- Safe and efficient restraint
- IV catheter placement and venipuncture
- Sample collection (urine, blood, stool, etc.)
- Knowledge of commonly used medications and parasiticides, and their monitoring requirements
- Accurately preparing medications and drugs for administration via prescribed route (PO, IV, IM, SQ, etc.)
- All aspects of anesthesia and surgical setup including: surgical preparation, induction & intubation, intra-op monitoring, recovery, post-op care and discharge
- All aspects of radiology including: X-ray unit and computer setup, troubleshooting technique, and positioning
- Laboratory knowledge: In-house IDEXX lab equipment process and troubleshooting for: SNAP tests, SNAP Pro Reader and Snapshot DX, Catalyst One, ProCyte DX, Coag DX, UA and SediVue Analyzers, IDEXX Reference Lab and VetConnectPlus, cytology setup for ear, skin, fecal and urine samples, PCV/TP.

- De-escalating tense situations
- Showing compassion during stressful and emotional moments such as euthanasia, financial frustrations, etc.
- Outstanding phone, written and in-person communication skills that: engage and bond clients to our Hospital, exhibit confidence for the high-level care we provide, and show compassion and respect at all times
Requirements for Consideration in this Position:
- Two years of experience in a veterinary hospital
- Impressive can-do attitude towards teamwork and client service
- Willingness to learn

- IDEXX lab equipment
- Smartflow
- Bilingual
