Job Description

Our St. Louis Water Resources Group is actively looking to hire for the Group Manager position. The ideal candidate for this position brings a solid technical foundation, strong personnel skills, and a passion for managing both people and clients.

This position will provide ample opportunity to grow your career in St. Louis and work on increasingly challenging and diverse projects. There is a significant opportunity to grow by serving the Water Resource Group's top clients and the expanding markets on both sides of the river as well as other emerging markets. The right person for this role will mentor and shape a talented team, leading them to new heights in St. Louis as well as other locations.

We are looking for a 10+ year individual who can help build on a foundation already established by the CMT Water Resources team. While there is an emphasis on an individual who understands our traditional water work, we will also strongly consider backgrounds in Aviation, Surface Transportation, and Site Services, given the diversity of work delivered and the strong market potential of this office.

The Group Manager 1 leads collections of teams led by other managers – often organized by discipline and geography. They will be responsible for the overall performance of a team of people.

What you will do:

Group Manager responsibilities fall into four main functions:

Professional Learning, Growth, and DevelopmentCreate, maintain, and implement staff technical development planMaintain and facilitate the implementation of employee staffing planConduct regular 1-on-1 HS/HS meetings with staffConduct career planning discussionsMonitor and facilitate effective task delegation from PM to technical staffMarketing and Business DevelopmentCreate and maintain a group-level business development planParticipate in Unit/Geographic business development strategy and cross marketingIdentify and monitor changes in client satisfaction, expectations and servicesMonitor group-level weighted pipelineMaintain 3-year growth strategyOversee pursuit GNG and win strategy developmentAlign group initiatives with corporate strategic planFinancial and Operational HealthDevelop and monitor annual action planDevelop and review annual group budgetMonitor income statement and operational metricsMonitor balance sheet operational metricsReview backlog and book-to-burn ratesOversee contract review including type, terms, and requirementsProject Quality and Delivery OversightMonitor adherence to quality assurance requirementsIdentify, monitor, and elevate potential risks and claimsFacilitate group lessons learned and continuous improvement discussionsMonitor adherence to project schedulesReview and adjust project resource plans to optimize staff utilizationCoordinate resource allocation with BUD and other groups



Here is what you’ll need:

Bachelor’s degree is requiredProfessional license or certification is preferred10+ years of progressive industry experience is preferred


To execute responsibilities, Group Managers should possess the following KSAs:

Excellent managerial and supervisory skills to motivate, develop, and direct staffRelevant knowledge of discipline-specific practicesAdvanced analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skillsStrong financial skills and ability to analyze financial dataStrong marketing and business development skillsAbility to align group initiatives with corporate strategic planKnowledge of quality assurance proceduresAdvanced communication and organizational skillsProficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Deltek Vantagepoint, CanopyAbility to accept out of town travel assignments and work overtime to meet group demandsValid U.S. Driver’s License preferred to visit project sites, clients, and other CMT offices when public transportation is not available


Physical Requirements:

Office tasks: Physical requirements are minimal and include prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer. Travel to different locations can involve sitting for extended periods

The expected compensation range for this position is $100,000-$150,000 annually. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on numerous factors, including but not limited to individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and geographic location.
