As an Account Manager, you'll generate, manage, and nurture relationships, drive growth, and ensure customer satisfaction. The Account Manager will oversee a portfolio of assigned customers, develop new business from existing customers and actively seek new opportunities.

  • Build new customer relationships through regular communication including cold phone calls and cold in-person visits.
  • Maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships through regular communication including in-person visits, emails, phone calls, and virtual meetings.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for assigned customers, addressing their needs, resolving issues, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Understand customer business objectives, industry challenges, and opportunities to offer tailored solutions and recommendations in a timely manner.
  • Attend conferences as needed to represent Portage Learning, engage with both new and existing customers, and identify and pursue new business opportunities within current and potential accounts.
  • Prepare and deliver product presentations, proposals, and course demonstrations to contacts, showcasing the value and benefits of the company’s offerings.
  • Collaborate with department leadership to develop and implement effective strategies, plans, and initiatives for assigned accounts, while working closely with internal teams, such as marketing, data, academics, and student services.
  • Track and provide feedback on market trends, customer data, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities and threats, and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Track and analyze key performance metrics, including customer conversion, retention rates, and account performance metrics such as account volume and customer satisfaction to report progress to leadership.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of customer interactions, and account plans in the CRM (HubSpot) and other systems.
  • Provide feedback and insights from customers to internal teams to inform product development, marketing strategies, and service improvements.
  • Escalate critical issues to department leadership and other relevant departments as needed, and collaborate on resolution strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills (written, verbal, listening, and public speaking).
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with a strategic and analytical mindset.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g. HubSpot, Monday) and Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to leverage technology to optimize department processes and workflows.
  • Ability to manage multiple accounts and projects simultaneously, with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently to meet with customers, attend meetings, and participate in industry events.
  • Self-motivated, results driven, and relational, with a passion for customer success.
  • Must be service oriented with a focus on helping others.

Qualifications (Education Requirements/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, sales, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in higher education, sales, account management, or a related role required, with a proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving business growth preferred.
  • Successful completion of a background check and current and/or ability to obtain the following clearances: Child Abuse, State Police, and FBI Fingerprinting.
  • Demonstrated agreement with and vision for the stated mission, philosophy, values, and goals of Portage Learning.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, projectors, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  • Regularly required to sit; talk and hear, use hands to type, file, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • May require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk, lift, carry and move light to medium weight. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and learn technical information.
  • Lifting is required. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.

Position Types and Expected Hours to Work:

This is a full-time position. Standard working hours are typically Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Employees must be able to work from the office located in Chippewa Township, PA and are expected to conduct a minimum of 80% of work hours in the office when not engaged in approved business travel.

Remote work arrangements may be considered for candidates residing within designated states in the assigned territory; New York State (excluding New York City and Long Island), Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Oregon. Employees hired within the listed territory regions are expected to travel to the corporate office once per month for staff meetings.

Travel:

This job requires frequent travel to multiple states for trips to institutions and conferences. Given the travel nature of the role, work-related travel outside of standard business hours, including early mornings and evenings, is common. Travel on one or more days of a weekend may also occur occasionally.
